The really cheap ebay ones are not a good option, they don't last too well but you get what you pay for I guess.

The other option is to keep an eye on eBay and try to pick up a bargain. I managed to get a set of HotBits DT1 coilovers from Scooby Clinic for a lot less than the RRP of £950!

why do you need coilovers?

kyb's and lowering springs are cheaper and a much better option

It depends what they're to be used for but ultimately a good set of coilovers are better than a good set of shocks and springs for track use etc. Everyday road use then shocks/springs are fine, unless you want the car lower which you probably do...

I want the car lower but not chavy low, I'm a mature owner an I still need a usable family car, the rears are knocking so its ready for a freshen up.
I'm looking for the most cost effective upgrade for my 2004 wrx

Agreed, for those requirements some decent shocks and springs will be your best bet.

Scooby world sell kyb at roughly £200 for fronts an rears per pair.
Which would be the best springs to go with these? I'm after a sporty look
