Default Advice on suspension (ultimate weekend road/track car)

Hi all as many of you will know last year my Hawkeye WRX went into RCM for a big horse power transformation. (2.35 running 460 but capable of much more). This years job working on the other parts that make a great car, Brakes is easy I currently have AP 6pots on the front and plan on adding the rears to balance the car out a little more.

The car currently has Prodrive springs and whiteline front and rear ARB and ALK with RCM geometry the car handles well and I have be pleasantly surprised how well it’s dealt with the extra power. The bad new however is the rear is knocking again so its time to upgrade.

I have already invested a large amount of money into the car and will never sell her, so build quality is very important I am working on buy the best 1st time rather than keep updating parts over the years.

Two main questions:
1) What coilovers would you recommend, Has any one used Ohlins on a Hawkeye? Any idea why they don’t sell them in the UK for my Model? Any other recommendations?

2) What other supporting parts would you recommend?

Thanks for any advice you can offer

I can only recommend Nitron 2-way setup or KW V3 which are best out there.

If you are looking for good suspension setup, good is Exe-TC which are known as perfect track suspension, which are still comfortable on road

I would contact the Nitron and ask about the best suspension setups for your car.And mainly i would go with Nitron is lifetime warranty(if you are get your shocks serviced every year) and second thing is are comfortable on hardest or softest.

I would personally question why I want to change to a coilover Coilover I'd opt for the KW clubsport or, at the least, replace the rear spring setup for a linear spring. KW use a progressive spring on the V3 setup that I really don't like. It gives a weird handling characteristic. Its very soft in initial rate, so the *** sags quite a bit then the stiffer rate comes in and then the car handles better. I personally like a more consistent spring rate throughout the travel. The clubsport uses the linear spring. For road I always prefer a fixed perch though

Some great advice guys, It looks like KW are the way to go will have a read up on KW3 vs Clubsports. would Clubsports be to nard for the road or can they be adjusted to suit all conditions ?

As for what I am look for to be honest I am not sure as this is the 1st real performance car I have owned and she is developing and transforming as I learn, mainly I want to get rid of the standard kit that is faulty and invest in some quality replacement. The main objective is to make the car more stable, I now feel the brakes and power are too much for the suspension making the car pitch and move around.

What about sti lateral control arms I notice them are fitted onto spec C?

Who sells KW in the UK, any recommendations

If going coilovers I would go for Camber bolts all round, Ball joint extenders and or Full roll centre kit. Adjustable lateral links may also be something to look into. On a side note: Iv also heard a few good things about the Kartboy shifter bush kit.

As above what suggest Ricky, adjustable lateral links like Apex selling the Hradrace(i'm running those and car is ultimately transformed),here is link on those adjustable lateral links http://www.apexperformance.co.uk/cat...oducts_id=1853

About the KW V3,price is around £1500 for which you can have Nitron set, just search about the Nitron, many people running them

Or there is the 'STi pink' lateral links and trailing arms. Triple spherical bushed - 'pillow bushed' bearings.

Minimal VFM (unlike most of the aftermarket ones) and all the stiffness, and directness the pillow ball brings

The lateral links made a nice difference, but the trailing arms have tightened the rear up alot more

bonesetter Hardrace are too pillow bar, just this cheaper model(which i was post) is not pillow ball(spherical bearings) and main reason why i would go with these is simply adjustability

Haweye STi here, running 475

Std suspension is poor even with the prodrive srpings. Went to BCs - best set up I've had for a road car so far! Very good value for money too!

You can get the Ohlins RT range for the Hawk. Will be the muts nuts, but best part of 3k!!!

EXE-TC are no longer in the road suspension market AFAIK; they focus on competition use now.

Was advised by a very respected tuner on here to stay away from KW.

Have a Hawk running over 600bhp and I am running BuddyClub Racing Spec Dampers, if I was to buy something else it would have been the KW club coilovers as stated above.

If you ask enough people you will find every coil over has a bad story? its the amount of storys that should be noted, I have only heard good things (^^^ previously ) about the KW's.

I can however highly recommend the BuddyClubs, I am also running a D2 rear-end toe & camber kit which I would also recommend

Good luck bud,
Lee.

If your going ultimate build, and moving to an in boot ali tank, then the MSI rear subframe is the ultimate mod!

Needs in boot tank though as the suspension points are raised to bring the roll centres back up. This mixed with the roll centre adjust kit at the front should transform the car.... but theyre about a grand!

Im currently welding a rear subframe up to move the pickup points up as much as i can without changing the tank ..... should go a bit of the way there!

KW V3 are great coilovers about the feedback, look on Google where people saying only good words, what many people can't say about the BC

About the KW,really ask here on 22b John Felstead and you have best possible feedback from 1st hand,he running like fast road and SS,Ten of the best etc.

EXE-TC you can still buy them, usually come on sale still for around £1000-£1500,if i would pay for them those money, yes i would

I've tried Nitron setup with Eibach springs on friend S2000 and must admit best possible setup which i'm looking to get in near future

Decision is yours, but i would go like with Nitron or KW,AST too,if its no money object Ohlins will be mine too,but at this price i would go again with 3-way Nitron

Ive got the full stage 3 setup with adjustable top mounts from powerstation, on my hawkeye. I haven't tracked the car, but it was a massive improvement over standard. They use AST coil-overs.

How does the Tein Flex or Mono flex compare to the AST(Sportline II??) and KW Ver 3?? Is the AST Sportline II three way adjustable? The Tein's and KW's are not.

Do anyone know hos thick the shafts is on the tein's and kw's? The AST Sportline II has 45mm.

I'm going to buy new ones for my GC8 Type R. My Tein Super Street's are getting a little old and saggy i think and i want a set where i can adjust the hight in the right way.

The car isn't a daily driver so the comfort isn't a priority.

Running 330hp and got these chassi mods right now.

You can pick up a pair of uprated ball joint bolts here. Worth it for a track car with stiff suspension so you don't bend your bolts.
