Lowering options for classic
Hi, I'm looking to lower my 97 ver.3 WRX Type RA. I want to lower it around 30-40mm without compromising it's handling (hopefully improve it).
I don't have enough to splash on coilovers. Was thinking maybe just a spring setup on the wrx shocks? I also have some cusco topmounts on the way (front only) that I plan to use.

If you drop your WRX dampers by that amount you will not only be compromising the dampers, but also creating negative chassis dynamics. You'll have very little damper travel left before hitting the bumpstops. Fast road, B-road pitching you'll be crashing
Your WRX dampers will be twin tubed units, much better off, IMHO, sourcing some used P1 dampers & springs - they are around for ~£200. The set-up uses 'red' late classic STi 'upside down' mono tubed dampers, and prodrive tuned springs. One of the best suspension solutions for the Impreza

And also keep in mind if you use camber plates with fixed perch setups, you will increase the front ride height a bit, depending on the thickness of the camber plate.

Ok, p1 setup sounds good, will keep an out for some Can these shocks be serviced? My car is very low mileage and don't really want to put worn shocks on. Unless i manage to find a set of low mileage ones.
With regards the camber plates, I was planning to add a bit of negative camber to improve handling. Good / bad idea on a classic?

H&R lowering springs would be ideal, nice drop, there was a set for sale on here a few days back, you just missed them
Either them or Eibach springs should do you fella!
Not interested in my gauge btw are you fella?

There is no where you can get brand new P1 springs now. Any Eibachs will likely be 'Pro's' which are feebly soft

Depending on what you want to do with the car, you should be able to get close to -1.5 deg camber with the stock camber bolt up front. If you're planning on tracking your car often then more camber would be better.
