Default Rear shocks had their day!

After a clunk found my n/s rear spring touching tyre. Found rear shocks corroded away so that n/s spring dropped.
Replaced them both yesterday. Took a bit of effort tho.
Anyone else found this?

I would say they have been replaced mate. The original sti shocks were painted red. (mine an 02 sti) the direct relacements are more of a yellow colour. Exactly the same shock by same manufacturer just different colour. KYB ultra SR's

KYB shocks just get better, if they are not knocking they rust away!
Utter rubbish.

I have had Bilsteins in my previous car (205) and even after 65k they were nowhere near as bad so I guess this has happened if the wheel arches have never been washed hence eaten by salt?

Hi Guys,

Sorry to hijack the thread, I just didn't see the point of starting another thread...hope no one minds. My rear shocks are also knackered, they are knocking but there is also play in the strut...this after 62K miles so I’m guessing i did ok....they haven't rusted though

Any way I don't want to go down the coil over route as I’m more than happy with the way the car drives and handles with the current OEM shocks and Prodrive springs.

I have been told that direct from Subaru the standard shocks are mega bucks (not got a quote yet) but I’m lead to believe that these are also sold by the manufacture (KYB) for much, much less. So I’ve started looking into the KYB suspension and I believe that these are the correct units for my car. (MY03 (53plate) STi Type UK)

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m10b0s2696..._02_on_WRX_STi

Are these the exact units that Subaru fit or are they just made by the same people? And do they do them in red?? I’m a little fussy like that

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Also, do they normally come with a full set of replacment nuts and bolts? If not, anyone know the exact sizes? I'm a little **** and like to replace all nuts and bolts, after all they have been on the car for 8 years now

just had a quote from my local main dealer for the rear shocks on myo3 blobeye, everyone sat down just short of a grand. best thing is one side is more expensive than the other. i,ve left the exact figures at work, if i remember i,ll bring them home & post them up.
because the last set (the 4th full set) was replaced as a goodwill gesture from subaru, in 2009, i will have to pay in full if i have them done - i think the coilover option is looking good!

as promised prices were: £381.64 & £426.11 can,t remember which was n/side or o/side with a total quoted price of £931.95 - i know the figures don,t add up to that but thats what they quoted me!

Bloody hell

Thats a lot of coin, can anyone confirm if the KYBs from Camskill are the correct units for a MY03 STi Type UK and what Subaru fit OEM but in a different colour?? compared to the dealer supplied units there is a massive price difference, its almost hard to believe that they are the same units.

Cheers

Chris
