ARRGGGG, i know this thread is like a nightmare to you!!

Fitted 500 miles ago. They were slightly noisy when cold and silent when warm.

Now they are rattling and the right front one is also squeaking.

The model is a 01, so I wonder whether the true improvement over the previous model one's is just a dream.

Can you 01 owners can give me some feedback over yours as all past threads have been carefully red?

Help very much appreciated

Caronte, i have had my Leda's fitted for a few months now on my MY01 (done about 5000 miles with them on) the only noise that i get is when they are cold, as is expected, which i think is due to the thicker oil used, apart from that they are perfect

Had mine for 6 months or so now (7K miles)

No noticeable knocking cold or hot but the front right (i think) squeaks when going over speed humps.

Had mine for ?x miles &
- when cold the oil is thicker but travel 3-5 miles & the oil is properly warmed
- at times there is squeaking from the front right though I'm usually doing 30 over speed humps, borrowed a mates car (non scooby) & did the same & Christ what a real noise!!

- under uneven road conditions & heavy braking, whilst it feels bloody awful, this is no different to any other car with firm sports suspension

- Personally I found the suspension to be miles better through corners, roundabouts & the like. On straight roads apart from a little more firmnes, I couldn't tell too much difference, except I sit 50 mm lower now

- Have your setting been set at 5 clicks front & rear or have you had a litle tinkle as I did & it changed the car into a go kart!!

- When mine was first set uo I was a little concerned about the noise, so I got Pete to drive it & it was as it should be, though the suspension is working harder than the standard set up....

Cool

OK - so MY99 but

My n/s/r Leda has banged & knocked ever since it was installed. Had it dismantled & checked by Leda & NP, within tolerances.

To give you an idea...

Drove to Ireland @ Xmas and after 100 miles with the last 25 on Irish bog roads (not known for smoothness and kindness to shocks) it still rattled as I came to my destination Outside temp was about 1C though.

It just rattles all the time, so I've kind of forgotten about it.

I'll see if the 2yr service @ Easter cures it.

Red face

Again as Puff has stated, on my MY99 Sti the Leda's are really clunky and creaky most of the time, really noticable at low speeds and over speed bumps, time for a service methinks!!

Don't you all find the suspensions (with 5&5 settings) too unstable at very high speeds (110+ mph) and very sensible to lateral wind?

No Pete, not yet. I'm trying to travel a little bit more in order to present to Leda a better feedback.

My Leda's have rattled since they were installed, I had the car at Leda for a checkup...and voila...silent...for like 4 days...then the rattles reappeared - I've learnt to live with it.

And I do know most coilovers makes annoying sounds...

They do transform the car though, MY00 12/11 clicks...stunning.

Hey J,

do you felt the car slightly underdumped when you got them on their original settings?

Original settings?

It's way underdamped (though comfortable) when running anywhere near 5/5.

A damper needs to be matched to the spring...

i know but I'm waiting to cover 600 miles before changing my 5, 5 settings and while the car is comfortable it produces a marginal bumping at low speed.

I'm curious to see what will happen.

BTW the car is very fast on these settins as well.

Unhappy

I spoke too soon. I had a play with the damping at the weekend and i ended up with 6/6 on my MY01.

Nothing wrong with the handling but there's a rather irritating knock coming from the rear. It sounds like theres something loose in the boot.

At least i'm not alone

Noise apart; I wanted to see if you felt the same.
Today I tried to change the settings. I could only manage to reach the front suspensions cause i didn't have time to lift the back.
I tried 9 in front keeping 5 at rear.

The car felt much more composed on highway at medium high speeds (50-90 mph) but not much more unconfortable.

However at low speeds it bounched enormously. I thought that being underdamped on the original settings the car in this new configuration would have been less underdamped and therefore firmier. The reality is the opposite. I wonder why? anyone? Is my knowledge missing something? ( I reckon i have winter tyres 205/55/16, which may cause some bumping and should be more confortable).

Hope you give some feedback

Cheers

Caronte
