Apex Coilovers - Install questions
#2
Very simple to fit, the main issue with have with self install is that people using the spring platform to set ride height which leads to a rattle as the spring is able ot move around. The spring platform is used to set spring preload to stop the spring dislocating on spring extension. If you want to run more droop then you need assister springs.

Having just fitted a set today, I can confirm that the whole lot go in pretty easily, assuming you have the right tools and a modicum of mechanical aptitude and ability. Took me about 4 1/2 hours, but that included new discs and pads all round.
The hardest part of the job was getting the original front struts out, as the anti-roll bar holds the suspension arms up a bit and makes the strut a tight squeeze to get out.
While on the subject...........I was unsure of how much pre-load to put onto the springs, so I just made sure they were level (left to right) and also, the amount that the car would be lowered was a bit of a guess. I measured the distance from the top mount to the upper hub securing bolt (camber bolt on the front) on the original struts, and then set the new ones to around 35mm less. This has lowered the car a little, but not very much, so I'll be waiting for the whole lot to settle a bit and then I'll have the c-spanners out for a bit of a lowering session.
It looks like there's a bit more negative camber on the rears that there was with the standard suspension, but maybe that's just my eyes lol
Good quality kit, and everything fitted lovely, right down to the ABS sensor wiring and the brake pipe securing clips. Top notch

Apologies for the hijack but i'm about to order a set of these myself as i'm getting the dreaded knocking from both front and back.
I have a MY03STI and just wanted to know what else is worth changing at the same time... Bushes, droplinks, top mounts?
Cheers...

Top mounts are part of the kit, bushes are your choice but can only help imho, "knock-links" if needed ! my joke, sorry...
