Default fitting coilovers to allow better tyre clearance on a classic.

Hi Guy,

I need to fit 215/55 17 tyres to my classic, (cant go into why at this point)but they foul the rear spring seat on the sti standard rear struts (which seem rather large ). The suspension is a bit tired anyhow, so I am going to fit coil overs.

1. Because the coilovers seem to have a smaller diameter and packaged better, will this solve the fouling problem, the arches and the like seem ok, but prohibit the fitment of spacers.

2. I dont want the suspension too hard, the car is used for maily road, with a few drag events thrown in. Whats a good package to get?

3. Whats the biggest wheel tyre combo fitted to a classic with no arch mods??

Thanks

Sleeper

Would say 17`s not sure what tyre size, went from std 16`s straight to 18`s on mine with 215/35`s on had to trim lip bk to spotwelds on rear arches re-seal/paint, cars lowered 40mm

Prodrive put 18's as an option on the P1, but not sure of the tyre width.
The springs on the stock suspension are off-set to clear tyres but coilovers are not, though the spring diameter is considerably less.

You could talk to a real expert who does it all day, Curtis at Powerstation.

Graham.
