Wheel Allignment questions
Hi, I reacently did my own wheel alignment using SUN laser allignment bay (good bit of kit). I did a test on a Impreza Sport and got some good results, Managed to get -0.50' camber on the front and left the rears as they were at -0.90' as well as getting the toe almost at 0.00' all round. The car handled alot better and was more noticable than I thought it would be.
I then did my WRX and got -1°01' camber on the front but struggled getting the toe back to 0.00 and ended up with -0°02' on the NS and +0°02 OS. The rear NS was at -1°19' so I tried to get the OS to match it as the preference was 1°17' and ended up with -1°16' with an NS toe of -0°01 and OS of +0°04' total toe of 0°00. As the caster is not adjustable I left it at 3.19° and 3.05°.
My question is.... Does it matter if both sides dont match EXACTLY or not? What do the professionals usually achieve? ar mine good results?
The car feels alot tighter on the front and grips more. it started with -0.76' on the NS and -0.02' on the OS.

You cannot get it all EXACTLY symetric across the chassis, especially one on rubber bushes etc.
With those measurements you are pretty good I think.
Consider just how much changes when you have just the driver, add a front passenger, 2 more in the back and a holiday's worth of luggage too!
Ride height is every where and all the rest with it.
Sounds to me you did a very careful/good job.
You might have better results with camber bolts in each corner to get more neg camber, but if it is a nice road car, I think you will be happy.

Well that seems ok then
it did think it was almost impossible to get them all exact, which is why I asked so thanks for your response
I thought it went quite well considering no one told me or showed me how to work the machine, how to set it up and how to change the suspension settings. Luckily I'm quite good at working things out
I think I need to add more parts to my shoping list but cant afford alot on my very weak income, problem with being a student. Eventually I will get some coilovers, adjustable top mounts, various lock kits, ALK, bushes...all that you can get really. But at least I can do the setting up for free.
Thanks Again,
Gaz

more castor? I would have thought that wouldnt make it easy to turn?
for example... Take a Chopper style motor bike with a long strech/castor, very stable in a straight line but crap at cornering.
Take a Ducatti, the shocks are almost straight so the wheel can turn quick and easily but abit twitchy and hard to keep in a straight line?
