Angry Eibach Springs

Hi,

Over the weekend i put the springs on my 99 uk classic - was under the impression it would drop lower, funny as it seems not to have dropped at all!!

the shocks are the standard ones.

Any ideas of why this may be? anyone encountered the same??

Cheers!

Most are like for like, you would have to buy a set that specifically stated it would lower the ride hight of the car, otherwise these are very good springs, dont knock them until you have given them a good run out

Not that I have them on mine but they are on my shopping list. I read on here that it takes a while for the car to settle down and the springs to bed in.

Think they will drop it a little but not much. Read someone else used H&R -50 and it looks very low IMHO.

If you don't like them I'll have them

still need to get the car tracked, alligned after putting them on so hopefully this will be done during the week, then i'll be in a position (not scared) to push the car to notice any difference.

any ideas of what i should expect??

The springs do lower the car slightly, I think it's 25mm after they have settled after a couple of weeks.

Mine didn't look any lower, but my flaps started catching on the drive!

It depends what you were looking for.

If you wanted a good suspension setup, with better handling, then Eibach's are great.

But, if you just wanted your car to look really low, and mean, and are not bothered about the handling, then you've fitted the wrong springs.

When I had my Prodrive springs fitted I noticed the difference in ride height straight away... however when the car is parked on the drive (which has a slight drop left to right) the car looks like it's gone back up in the air again!

Get your car next to a standard classic... and you'll see yours is lower.

Had Eibachs fitted to my classic a couple of years ago - doesn't look like it drops at all, however it is noticeable when parked up against a standard one, but only when you look at the wheels in the wheelarches.

Another vote for springs taking a while to settle. Had my 106 GTi done, springs changed on the front, and torsion bar done at the rear.

I was very particular with the changes they were making, as with my car it was important that the front was lower than the rear for handling. Got the car back, and the rear was lower than the front Left it to settle for a couple of weeks and it reversed, front was just as it should be

Eibachs on mine dropped it 20mm front, 25mm rear, can't get the @loody trolley jack under it now, which is a pain LOL...

Time to settle is important.
LOL at BrynO...I learnt that about 25 years ago (yes i'm that old) and have remembered practicality over cosmetics makes good sense, especially on a cold wet dark night on the road side, or even at a race track when you need to change wheels (on a cold/dark wet morning ....)

Have fun!
Graham.

The difference is usually most noticable on the front, but not in BrynO's case it seems .

My pug had that problem. Mine was so low (cos of the silly side skirts) that not even the hand jack would go under it.

The solution? Put one wheel front wheel on a kern when you want to jack up. Or roll onto a wooden plank.

(my car was stiff enough to lift both side wheels up from the front jacking point )
