Default Just fitted Whiteline 22mm ARB to classic

I already had Whiteline solid droplinks, and was quite impressed with how they improved the handling and tightened things up nicely. Decided to go for just the rear 22mm adjustable anti roll bar after reading a few reviews on here, so I thought I would add my own.

Initial thoughts on original handling were ok, but probably needs lowering to make it go around corners properly, can lean a bit if it gets too twisty. Droplinks F&R sharpened responses, still nice and comfy too even on 18's.

Fitted 22mm bar on softest setting, (end of bar) and took it for a spin. After a couple of awkward corners (which must have been ARB settling) first impressions I must say were not good.
It felt slightly stiffer, but still had most of the body roll as before. I went around one corner (middle of nowhere I hasten) a bit too fast in fairness, and the back unexpectedly started to slide but it still had sloppy responses. Not what I expected. Not nice.
I thought that if the middle setting is an exaggeration of this I'm not going to like it.

Back home, middle setting.

Straight away even driving out of the estate it felt sharper. On the road I was still a tad wary for the first few corners, but before long confidence grew and, Oh my god, what a difference!
The whole car just seems so solid and stable. Not just the back like I was expecting.
Same corner again same speed, utterly composed and balanced. No leaning.
The way it grips and puts its power down now is just totally different, and simply doesn't compare to how it was originally. Under full power in the dry, the tail will edge out ever so slightly. What a mod.

I now feel like I haven't really driven my Impreza until last weekend. What a waste! No need to lower it either now.
It takes the bumps perfectly, stays flat and stable, and even the mrs likes it!
If your just thinking about it, heres some advice, don't. It's 4 bolts. Just get one!

Welcome to the Bright Side
Why did Subaru not do this in the first place?

Daz,

Got to agree - middle hole's best!

It's good to see I'm not the only one who ran a wire brush over the clamps & repainted them!

Cheers,
Steve

You will be able to lift a rear wheel in mid bend and experience the joy of traction loss just when you most need it....in very extreme cases.
While hill climbing my Sti on the 'hardest' hole I have had this repeatedly, photo's to confirm it too.
I have settled on the middle hole too as the best.

Try it and see to be sure.

Graham.

ps I paint brackets also....

Is the 22mm bar the one to go for..? 05 WRX. Already have solid (R) droplinks fitted which have made quite a difference.

Mine is a 00 classic, and I think the standard bars are 19mm front and 20mm rear, (althought I could be wrong).

Whiteline rear bar diameter is 22mm, its adjustable and car now feels more neutral/slightly rear balanced, and a lot more stable overall.

Not sure of the ARB sizes on the newage, but its made a massive difference on mine. Loads more fun to drive, and I wish I'd done it ages ago.

The solid droplinks (F&R) made a noticable difference, but probably not 20% of what the ARB has done.

I'm about to order 3 Whiteline items for my 03 STi.
1. Rear 22mm anti roll bar (non adjustable)
2. Anti lift kit
3. Rear anti roll bar kit

All come to around £250 from Demon Tweeks and around £135 plus VAT to fit at Power Engineering, Uxbridge! These bits should compliment my Prodrive springs.

I have an Adjustable Arb rear, Uprated front, Braces upper & lower, (front & rear) Solid droplinks, Apex coilovers, Powerflex bushes Etc, Rear Arb is set at the stiffest & boy does she handle, So taught.
I think the stiffest setting is to much if you still jave the standard front Arb, As when i fitted the uprated front Arb & had the rear set to middle , Understeer came back slightly.
Definately a superb Mod

It is a fine line on these combinations, and don't forget the tyre pressure effect too!
Total agree with the car settings when you fit front and back uprated bars, hard is good, middle just nips in a tiny bit of u/steer, sometimes the car is better this way, it has been for me so far.

I added just the rear A/R 22mm with drop links to a std MY00 classic and it made the car very tail happy on the middle setting. For such a mild mod the oversteer was quite alarming and it didn't help on track either

Graham, I could lift a wheel with the std set up so I guess you didn't try hard enough on the OE stuff
