Smile Tein Type Flex - any good?

Hi all

I'm considering tweeking the suspension on my MY99 Turbo. Originally I was just going to stick a set of Eibach springs on, but the Tein porducts have caught my eye.

Has anyone fitted these? And are they any good? Also what's the deal with the EDFC? Any opinions would be good.

Also, are the standard dampers up to the job if I just changed the springs? Or would it be prudent to upgrade these as well (the car has covered 55K miles on the original suspension components).

Cheers guys and gals

Dave.

Main issue here is whether or not you'll find coilovers too hard.

Some people love the hard ride and reduced roll and will tell you to go for it. Others prefer the softer ride and will advise STi dampers and eibach springs, along with uprated roll bars, drop links and maybe strut braces.

Only way to decide is to go for a ride in a car with Tein or similar coilovers fitted. Prices are pretty similar for the two options.

Take care. Slowboy is dead right.

I have coil-overs and it took 3 shots to get the spring rate just right (for me), 4 springs every time.....
Jap sourced c/o's are usually very stiff and will wear you down on the road once the initial excitement is over.

The P1 must be about the best blend of pace and smoothness.

I would use Sti legs and 20mm lower slightly stiffer Eibach springs, a very well proven formular.
Add to this Whiteline anti roll bars etc.
Go and find a good thread on Suspension of last week when the 'compromise' was well discussed, I think it was 'Opinions...' something, but a good read from real users.

I race my car so I'm ok for the jolt, but if you want a nice road car for a sunday blatt and to go on holiday in, beware of coil-overs.

Cheers for the info guys.

I had heard that getting the set up right for coil overs in an involved process!

Regarding STi struts, which version of the STi will fit a MY99 Turbo? Or are they all essentially the same?

Cheers

Dave.

Where abouts are you?

I have the Tein setup on my car and with the EDFC controller it is adjustable incar. It is a superb setup and can go from 'Granada Mode' to 'Track Mode' within around 10 seconds. Not too expensive either.

If you are near Leicester the Graham Goode demo car has these fitted.

I was under the impression that a properly set up suspension set was actually very compliant and not hard and uncomfortable.

Apparently the WRC cars in track set up are by no means bone shakers on proper roads but are actually quite comfortable.
