Question rear end clunk

Hi,

I can hear a heavy clunking sound from left rear suspension over certain bumps. I recently changed struts, and the noise was evident before the swap. So other than the struts, what part of the suspension is likely to be knackered?, which bushes are prone to wear?

What car do you have?

One thing you can check is for any play in the drop links as these can cause a similar sound over bumps and speed bumps. If they are still the original ones and you car is fairly high mileage (40-60k) then it may be one of them that has gone. Uprated ones from Whiteline are about £45 a pair.

Dave.

Try *lubricating* the drop link bushes. You can test this theory by spraying them with some silicone lube, before you go to the trouble of disassembly.

Had the exact same problem on a MY99 and it was the rear ARB bushes (ones that go around the bar and have brackets holding them onto the chassis). About £5 from Subaru or you can get uprated ones 10 minute job to fit. On the FAQ section of the SIDC site it states this was a common problem on WRX's.

Yep, ARB droplink bushings are knackered.

Had a look and the rubber is turning within the housing, glad it not something more serious, nice one. I'll get these changed at the weekend hopefully.

thanks guys.
