Eibach Lowering springs
#7
Jake...and anyone else wanting cheap, but great handling.
1. eibachs..... how do they wind them so well?
2. Some kind of strut brace
3. laser geometry alignment
with a little work the above costs @ 500-700 depending on the brace used. you will not believe how well those standard dampers work.
Eibach warranty for 1,000,000 kilometres. The poor scooby will be dead then anyway

About 20-25mm mate,
The cars sits soooo nicely, just low enough but not silly.
We will have the 01 units in 3-4 months.. that will lower by a bit more i reckon they're on stilts arent they?
Hopefully they will be doing the matched damper kits like we can get for Saab. Then we can all have cheap handling!
One of the best smiles per pound you can achieve, plus less tyre wear and reduced stopping distances. Don't forget Eibach wind some springs for Prodrive... enough said!
Cheers

Steve,
I have H&R springs and they work extremely well with the standard dampers. I actually think they are a better match the H&Rs than the standard springs.
H&R design these springs to work with the standard Subaru dampers.
The car is 25-30mm lower than standard, the ride is much smoother and the there's no comparison as far as cornering goes.

Standard dampers will work just fine, especially if they are new,
Stef, see what you mean, we would charge
Eibachs £149.00
Fitting £ 65.00
Strut Brace £295.00 (very sexy TSL version)
Geometry £ 60 (eight camera laser alignment)
So £569..plus vat with a posh brace or £200 less without. Those OMP, Sparco ones work well, But any mountain biker will tell you, Alloy is a lot, lot stiffer than steel. ( and prettier too!!) However, any SB is better than none aint it?
Cheers

Trouser.
I know alloy is a lot stiffer than steel, which is why I have an alloy Sparco strut brace on CK1 which still only cost £60!!
And as for a strut-brace being sexy.....ermmmmm, well, whatever turns you onm I suppose.

Hi,
Alloy is stiffer than steel for a given weight, which isn't the same as saying that an alloy strut brace will be stiffer than a steel one - it will just be lighter and usually more expensive.
Cheers,
Alex

I think I was the first person on this BBS to fit Eibachs (on my STi4) and they have been superb.
The car originally came with very stiff springs (like a 22B according to Pete Croney)but the Eibachs give a firm, compliant ride instead of jarring.
They actually work particularly well with the uprated shocks you get on STi's (unbadged Bilstein units) though despite reports that UK spec struts are a little underdamped, most people seem happy with them.
I was barrelling around the countryside with some friends at the weekend and we swapped each others cars to "enhance" the experience (TVR Chimera and the new Tuscan) and depite the awsome potential of all present, the Scooby was the most composed of all through both the twisty and long sweeping stuff. (made me fall in love with the car all over again!)
Eibachs are also easy to fit (I have a fitting guide that I wrote for a few people if you want it) so just go for it!
Neil.

Thanks for that Neil.I'm a little suprised though as I have a STi4 and have never really thought of the ride as jarring.Mine's a Type R but that should'nt make a differece should it? I think I will go for it though!!

Question:
If my springs go on my car, and i replace them with (cheaper!!) eibach - is that a mod to the car? Will the insurance bods be able to tell?
Ar the springs a loud colour or grey/black like the standard. Just wondering

harj,
is it still the case that they are not ready for the MY01 yet?
also why do SS suggest that lowering without matching springs to dampers ruins handling- any truth in that??

Im sorry to say but lowering a car with just springs only improves it, in no way do Eibach springs themselves ruin the cars handling but vastly improve it!
Ride quality of Eibachs is near the std springs as they are progressive, best mod I made to the handling of my last Scoob and im sure that Stef would agree with me!
Some other makes of springs can alter the handling for the worse, but im certain Eibach do not.
Ive asked Eibach about the MY01 Springs and they said "Soon" and couldn't tell me much more. Eibach are also going to offer a full Spring and Damper Kit for all Impreza's along with Anti Roll Bars.
