I recently fitted 17 inch wheels with 215x45 tyres to my 93 impreza 1.6gl but had to take them off again as the rear tyre's were rubbing on the inside of the arches whenever I went over bumps and humps.
Can the rear suspension be raised and or stiffen to stop this happening or do I now need to get stiffer springs / suspension ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my car currently has 17's on the front and 15's on the back and it looks a bit silly.

What's the offset on the wheels - you may have fitted 17 inch wheels with the wrong offset, which move the wheels further into the wheel arches, and hence cause rubbing.
Fitting 205/45x17 tyres may help.
I wouldn't try adjusting the suspension - to make it not rub, you would need to have almost rock solid suspension, which would make the car both extremely uncomfortable and extremely dangerous to drive on the road.
