Knocking noise when steering??
#1
Hi everyone,
My MY99 scoob seem's to have something either loose or worn out in the suspension or steering. I notice a knocking noise when cornering hard around uneven (sharp bumps) corners. When stopped it is possible to hear from deep down in the engine bay (rack area maybe but difficult to tell) a knocking noise when the steering is quickly moved from left to right (with the engine off), it seems that the knock occurs when turning in one direction only. If I load up the steering wheel to the right (again engine off) then steer left there is a knock, if I do the same in the other direction no knock is heard (load up to the left first).
There does not seem to be any appreciable play in the steering from looking at the wheels.
Any ideas welcome....
Thanks.

Probably the steering column knuckle joint which is in the engine compartment at the back of the engine next to the downpipe, these can "dry" out after a while and unfortunately are not serviceable and have to be replaced.
