From new my 8 has had a knocking from the rear nearside corner. My dealer has now got a strut in stock, (but no mechanics to fit it immediately as they are off for various reasons)now the o/s corner is starting to make the same sort of clunking noise as well documented on the sti7.

What's going on?

Any one else had this problem?

Anyone managed to fix it? I can't believe 2 shockers going phut is routine?

Yeah, Brilliant.

This just goes to prove that there is some real underlying problem here.

I've had a knocking sound in the rear passenger side of my STI7 since last April!

But, at least its an isolated case (According to Subaru UK)!.

My STI 8 is being fitted with a new rear passenger side strut tomorrow to cure the rattle/knock. Local dealer in Norfolk has been very good in sorting problem.

Strut fitted - a lot better, but if you listen carefully it's still there. I will leave it for a few weeks and see what develops.

Hoddy, I would be grateful if you could keep me informed of your progress. I don't want to take a day off work, let my dealer maul my car around and still not have a solution!

Having driven car around for a quite a few miles today, rattle still there, possibly worse than before. I will call dealer on Tuesday morning. Not very pleased!

Disaster! Thats why I was reluctant to take mine in for a 'repair'.

It's not on really.

Are all dealers amateurs or what? Like the customer has nothing better to do than be messed around whilst they fumble their way to a fix.

Keep me posted please. My sympathies are with you.

Andy

No Harm, but Its not the dealers fault. He's only fitting a replacement strut as instructed by S-UK.

I've had 4 replacement struts in my STI7 and there's another chap on here with more than than.

The problem appears to be slightly more complicated than just replacing the strut.

Knocking at the rear seems to be a common fault.
Not sure what the cause is, but Subaru do a 'fix' which involves a new topmount, and a spacer for the strut tops ( rear )
Recently these were supplied by the dealer to a friend for his STI 7UK as a fix, but it appears the 7 suspension is different, so it didnt fit.
After fitting lowering springs, the knocking is almost gone though.
