Brace your struts! They give the car a little more stifness, less flex and better handling.

That's it, they bridge across the strut towers to relieve the body shell of some of the flex. I'd like to put one on my Outback; supposedly there's even one made to bridge the rear struts. But that would ruin the cargo capacity...

It seems they are factory-standard equipment in all these engine bay pictures you people are posting - is that correct, or have you all added them yourselves?

Thumbs up

Some cars came with them, some are aftermarket ones. My old Charade Turbo had one

Definitely true - 'cos a brace is more rigid, it transmits more force. Which is not good.

Following on from above, do you need to declare a strut brace to your insurers? I know you should report all modifications, but just wondered if anyone has had any experience of this?

I have just seen that TSL do one like the official STi one - but for only £80 +VAT!

Cheers

Worth having alook at this thread Suspension info

Implies strut brace only worth it if you have beefed up other parts of your suspension. On its on bit dubious IMHO

One downside of a strut brace is that it can cause damage to both sides of the car in the event of a a relatively minor shunt fom one side. So consider this if you are thinking of fitting one as you dont want your car getting written off for a minor knock if it is a slightly older vehicle
