05 wagon shocks, question for those who have fitted non-inverted replacements.
Ok, so i've got the dreaded clunk on the suspension of my newly bought 05 wrx wagon. I've read all the threads i can find on the issue, but i have an insurance related question.
To those who have fitted the non-inverted shocks, have you declared the change to your insurance? Although i realise the excel g shock are standard damping, they are technically a change from standard. So do i need to let my insurer know?

Hi,
I certainly would recommend you check them with your insurer just to be on the safe side. If you need any help with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

I had considered this very question too about putting inverted shocks on my classic to replace standard shocks!
To the OP, why not re grease your shocks (if they're inverted) and save some hassle/money?

Thanks Dan, best man for the question! I will run it past them then...i just wasnt sure as im not "upgrading" them.
Cheers Piehole, good point, i will grease them up for now but i dont like the thought of them not being spot on, so ill replace them soon.
Hi Reef, another good point, i'll have to see if ive got that cover too. Used to have it on my 200.

It's the lack of grease from the factory that causes the knock eventually. There's two "bushings" that the piston slides up and down through and between those is the grease. It dries up and goes like wax so then the bushes aren't lubricated. You can strip the shocks very easily, clean them out and grease them properly. Some people add a grease nipple to the strut so they can be greased easily on the car. That's what I'm doing.
