Default Any tip for DIYing a carbon wrap roof.

Hi guy's I'm thinking of doing the wagon's roof with 3D black carbon bubble free wrap. Never done this before, ordered the stuff and some felt squegee applicators and I have a heat gun. Watched some vids but it's not the same as actually doing it is it. I'm going to remove the screen trims, roof rails and gutter's to make it a bit easier.
Anything else I need to get? and tips on actually applying it from you guy's who have done this before would be great. Do I need to seal the edges with anything when it's done. The edges will be hidden hopefully down under the trims and gutters when finished. Thanks for any advice, Steve.

Hi. If you have bought genuine 3M wrap with the air channels then you will find it ok. If not I'd suggest using a bit of water. The water just makes sealing the edges more awkward at the end

Start in the middle and work your way outwards, leaving the 4 corners until last.

Have someone help you lay it down, 1 person on each corner is ideal!

Make sure the roof is completely clean before you start, and clean all the edges under the seals properly first.

You can buy the glue to seal the edges but you shouldn't need it.

Only use the heat when you absolutely need to. The more you can do without heat the better, and don't use too much heat as it can distort the pattern.

I think that's about it. Take your time and you should be ok. How well it turns out depends on the quality of the wrap. We have tried about 10 different manufacturers and found the 3m is by far the best- although it's also. The most expensive!!

Spent a while this morning getting the roof liner out so I could get to the roof rail nuts. I'm going to get them off tomorrow and prep the gutter ready for wrapping. Shame I needed to do this just to get to 8 nuts.

Piece of cake use some surgical spirit 1/10 with water it evaporates a lot faster helping the edges seal better, soapy water is just a bad idea on vinyls takes for ever to dry and long term may affect the adhesive with the chemicals in the soap, you should be able to lay it down an move about easy , start from middle to edge then middle to edge on other side , you might want to mop up the last 6" in each corner and allow the vinyl to dry before squeegeein them Down otherwise the will prob keep lifting
