Not a absolute necessity but I have mesh on mine as it prevents leaves/pigeons/debris going under there!

Cuts down airflow. If it was necessary, Subaru would have done it.

Haven't had any kind of mesh on any of my scoops. Like above cuts air flow. Although just keep checking that nothing gets stuck their like leaves etc.

Can`t see a bit of 10mm square mesh cutting down that much airflow....also I read on here a while back that over a certain speed the air actually goes over the scoop anyway

The air flowing through the scoop is to cool the intercooler, so the reduction of flow due to some form of mesh, is outwayed by the prevention of damage to the fragile intercooler fins from debris of various types.

Subaru UK decided to produce a scoop grille for the 2011 WRX STi because of said damage.

I think that was more due to the aerodynamics of the car and the positioning of the scoop in comparison to the the newage design.

Trust me, research HAS been done by a trusted source and a mesh DID decrease airflow.

Believe it, or not, up to you.

I `got it` first time. Not mentioning a name doesn`t immediately deem someone anonymous Also, as pointed out, it`s grammar, not grammer....genius
