Default Paint Code Snags

Hi all

Recently had my front bumper resprayed due to the previous owner having a smart repair on it which had deteriorated badly. I took the bumper off and took it to the body shop to save some cash. I picked it up once complete and was really happy with the price and finish. However once back on the car its a bloody different colour!

The body shop owner has had a similar problem with my rear bumper were the code 02C came out too light so he had to redo it all again but with a red mixed in?

He was adamant it would be perfect this time as he has just bought into a new paint system which promises a perfect match every time. Obviously he is pissed off as well and we are waiting to here back from the company that supplied the new system.

He did say the WR Blue is a hard colour to match but i quipped back with the fact that Subaru seem to get it right

Anyone else had a similar issue or know what modified code to use?

Many thanks

Tbho mate I have 4 shades of that colour on my scheme which is why it would require the car to be with me to chip it correctly and use the right shade.
No scheme has 1 shade for all colours so saying he has a system that gives a perfect match every time from the prime shade is rubbish imho.

did you allow him to colour match off your car or the part supplied, in most decent schemes there are two to three varients on colours.

many thanks for the replies, this is exactly the kind of info i was after as i thought it dubious to claim that the system was foolproof and matched every colour. he had the front bumper for three days and in fact had the car for a week and a half when he did the rear end damage. I hate assuming things get done but i assumed he would spray it correctly, hence my quip to him when he said its a hard colour to match and i said well subaru seem to get it right

it can vary from car to car and brand to brand,

dont forget varients get made because the manufacturer cant keep the colour the same across the entire production, this leads to veriants being made, vw black magic has 13 ford diamond white has about 23 lol. to be fair to the painter some of the subaru colours can be hard to match and most if not all colours now adays need blending, although we tend not to do this with bumpers as plastics on some cars can throw the colour off, but this is mainly high metallic contents ie silvers.

I've only had problems matching 02C to non-standard paintwork.

It is normally a good match to OEM paint finishes, although non matching is normally down to the opacity (or lack of) of the panit.
