I can't say about the facelift, but the pre facelift is noticably lighter. My UK classic was much heavier then the RA i have now.
Im in the same boat as you, looking for an alloy one,in white.

I'm fairly sure all the Jap classics have the alloy bonnet, UK cars get the steal one. I could be wrong but deff the sti's and RA's have them if not the wrx.

i dont think all the jap ones had them, type-r's and RA's wasnt it?

anyway, theyre LOADS lighter then the steal ones, i think i read somewhere just as, if not lighter then some carbon bonnets?

Most JDM WRX/STI saloons did, it's a third of the weight of a steel one anyway.

My old 94 wrx import bonnet was considerably lighter than my m8s uk spec 1.

Couldn't believe the difference...

I have also heard that carbon bonnets are no lighter either

My old Spec C had ally bonnet & boot. Could lift it with one finger whereas current classic bonnet weighs a ton!

I do know that most Carbon bonnets are heavier due to the fact that they are not completely made out of Carbon since that would be too expensive.
The are simply laminated carbon over a plastic hood that most of the time is strengthend with a frame for more rigidy.
