Default worrried....STI8 replica scoop

I dropped my scoop to the bodyshop today, now was thinking have these ever ripped off at high speed, was thinking of maybe making a metal support, so the bolts go though the bonnet then the scoop then the support.

ANy bad experience of these?

Mine (from HTAutos) has been fine so far!!
Used quite a bit of Tigerseal on it as well for added safety.

The scoop doesn't get much of a battering at high speeds as the air is deflected over it as it hits the bonnet You have a look at the raindrops lazilly floating around the top of the scoop while driving as the air misses the scoop and goes over windscreen.

This is one of the problems with a bonnet scoop as the intercooler gets deprived of air at high speed. The classics were worse than the newage doe to the shape of the nose.

Cheers

The air does not get deflected over it as it hits it what a load of rubbish.

I wouldnt comment on this if you dont no jack about aerodynamics.

Its quite well documented that above 100MPH the airflow into the scoop is greatly reduced.

I was simply passing on details from a "true grit" article on airflow over the impreza and cars in general. The article was written by a company who investigates the aerodynamics of cars.

I'm certain that they mention that the airflow into the scoop was reduced at high speed as it is deflected over the scoop by the front of the bonnet..... I'll freely admit that I might be wrong

Shaun

Who knows Jack about aerodymanics, boundry layer etc
