Scooby World Carbon spoiler
Anyone got one? Has anyone lacquered one. Do you want to see what happens when you do laquer one? Never mind that the 4 bolts holding top to bottom were all different sizes and rusty or that top and bottom dont fit i got round that but what a mess it is now.

Its not pin holes m8 the Gel Coat has collapsed on the top wing into the weave. So when you touch it the you can feel the ridges in the weave and it looks pants. Scooby world funnily enough arent interested. Must be the Paintsprayer strange though cos he did the other half of the spoiler and bonnet and they are fine.

Fatmanscooby - to answer all of the issues raised in this thread...
When you first contacted us regarding purchasing the spoiler, you asked whether the top half was perfectly aligned with the base half, my response, was that it was not, and was around 2-3 mm out, not a great deal, (and well within the factory tolerances), I even sent you hi-res images via email of the exact spoiler we sent you. You were made aware that if you were unhappy with the spoiler when you received, you could have contacted us for a full refund, or replacement. You didn't.
When spoilers are dispatched they are fully checked over by the person packing them, for any signs of damage, however we do not disassemble them, so would not have any idea that the bolts inside were 'rusty' (as you state). But again, if you had contacted us when you discovered this, we would have offered a full exchange or refund. Again you didn't.
The carbon weave is indeed sealed with a gel coat, several layers of lacquer then a fine wax to finish the spoiler off.
We have spoken to the factory's UK agents and they have clearly stated that the gel coat would not disintegrate or break down by itself, through normal everyday wear, including the full range of winter and summer weather conditions. Therefore something must have been applied to the spoiler that resulted in some form of reaction, causing the condition in your images : Cause and effect.
Between us placing our order with the factory for the spoilers and receiving stock there is a 8-12 week period, also you have been in possesion of this spoiler since November. If there was a fundamental issue with the spoiler, it would have appeared immediately after manufacture, and more than likely the complete batch would be affected. We have sold dozens of the STI 6 style Carbon Fibre spoilers, to customers worldwide, over the past year, and apart from yours, to date not a single complaint.
If a product fails, or develops a fault, through normal use, during the warranty period, we do our utmost to rectify the issue, with either repair, replace or if all else fails refund.
As stated during the the telephone call, if the bodyshop can provide a report concluding that the spoiler has a fundamental problem, we will take this further.
Finally, threatening Wendy, during your telephone call to us on Friday, by stating that unless we sort this out you'll post on Scoobynet, SIDC etc, was, in my opinion, uncalled for.
regards
Neil

There was NO threat i stated people should know what happens if they are laquered as i would have liked to know. Yes it was bought in November and went to the Sprayshop in the box. Yes you did say the quality was pants but as it was the only one you had i made do. It was only when it was taken apart that we noticed the bolts etc. As stated it was purchased and PAINTED in November and it was fine til last week. So what could have caused it then? Do you warn people about laquering them? If so its not what you told me.

I never stated that the quality was "PANTS" simply pointed out that the top and base were a few mm out of alignment.
The condition shown in the images is caused by something applied after the spoiler was delivered to you. Exactly what that is, I have no idea, hence the request for a report from the bodyshop.

I told you on the phone what he said. He can only go by what he has applied which as said was Spears Heckler 2 pack laquer the SAME as applied to the WHOLE spoiler and bonnet. He is not a Carbon Fibre expert but a Paint Sprayer. It was baked in an oven and fitted to my car.

just an idea (shoot me if im wrong)
1 Neil you said there is a layer of wax to finish off the spoiler!
2 did the paint sprayer fully remove the wax before spraying the lacquer on?
3 as it may be a chemical reaction!!!
i have had my carbon spoiler on since september 2004 and up to now all is well.
hope ya get it sorted you 2 as we are all here for one thing and thats to enjoy our scoob's.

It was all prepped before being painted. My point is why has it taken since November to happen and why only the top? Yes it was laquered over the paint where it was painted and laquered where it wasnt painted.
