Default Dirty engine bay

The engine bay on Scooby is looking a bit grimey and i fancy giving it a clean or getting it steam cleaned professionally. I have access to a pressure washer but dont think this would be a good idea. Anybody tried this or got any DIY method or product recommendations ?

Does anybody have any before/after pics from your own efforts ?

got some stuff from mark at swissol. degreaser and orangy smelling stuff. spray on degreaser, wait a while, power hose off. let the heat of the idling engine dry the bay out then spray finisher on and everything comes up a treat. best £25 quid ive spent. the orangy smelling stuff works well on brake dust as well.

cheers

Use any branded degreaser, in the more grimey areas rub it in with a brush(paint brush with some duct tape wrapped around the metal area of the brush, to stop it sctratching, will do)...

Dont forget to do the underneath of the bonnet, bonnets shuts and even the door shuts near the door hinges.

Leave for 5 mins...

Use a hose to rinse off, just pinch the hose in for a bit more pressure in the stubborn area's, the only time I tried it with a pressure washer, the car didnt start, despite being cautious

WD40 will give a nice finish on your engine after, saves spending out more £'s as well

Thumbs up

Ive done mine a few times and not botheres covering anything up (my 93 and now my 01). It has always started OK, and after idleing for 10 mins, runs fine, so I wouldnt worry too much, just dont go and use a power washer on it!!

I just cryogenically cleaned my engine bay and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is the best way of cleaning. It fires dry ice particles under air pressure (typically 8 bar). The ice freezes the oil and grease or whatever and makes it very brittle then it is simply chipped away due to the high pressure. As the ice is dry it is safe to use on the electrical parts of the engine too. My engine bay has come up like new.
