There doesn't seem to be that much difference in insurance between the 1.8 & the 2L,as far as I found. I have a 1.8GL, & mine is ~£860. I'm 22, but with no no-claims.
I think you might find the 1.6 kind of slow down the motorway though, as mine struggles slightly up the hills at 80+ ...
You can get a good noise from the exhaust though - I used a universal fit 4 inch tailpipe + silencer, which added no power, but much better noise, as I don't want higher premiums.
Try the 2L GL or sport if funds allow.

Not all the 1.6 cars are 4wd, but I think all the 1.8+ ones are.

I just love impreza, but being only 18, i cant afford a 2l turbo!

I know u can get old 1.6 imprezas. Do you know if there is a body kit to make it look like a p1? As it is this car that just looks awsome.

Also do you know the engine stats on one? are the 1.6 4wd?

Has any1 eva done a lookalike scooby? Any help the better!!

or even better. is there any for sale!?!?!?

you will need the p1 bodykit if u want to make a p1 replica

i would asume that it would boost your insurance up tho as it would be a lot more "nickable"

try buying a insuring a 2.0 sport, you get a torbo looker without the bonnet vents, they could be added later if u felt like it

a far better option then adding modding a 1.8 or simmiler

i know what you mean cmaster, i'm 20 and couldn't afford to insure a turbo. so i did the next best thing and got a 2.0l sport

already changed the spoiler and the bonnets next. i know its not a turbo but "that day will come"

i say get a sport and some mods and that'll keep u happy for now!!

2ltr will be a good car for a young driver as it still has 4x4 and as far as my track record goes turbo's are best kept away from young drivers

1.6s are 2wd as far as i know, you could get one like mine,

2.0l GL, 4x4 and only grp13 and then all you need are bumpers, spoiler and the bonnet (and a few other bits'n'pieces)

Can anyone spot the difference??

i can spot the difference if u look carefully u cant see an intercooler
Si (my mum used to say i'd go blind lol)
PS it does look good n all that but still seems a similar logic to why i sold my UK car in that i kuda kept spending money getting it up to import type power or you could just spend all that money on the real macoy in the first place, just a thought

I agree but most was done before i brought it, plus if you can't get insurance on a turbo whats the point in having one?

true true i wasnt having a pop but it always makes me laugh when some people moan about high insurance then spend a fortune making a **** car, think nova max power type here now na scoobies they r still proper bo , look "sorted" when if they'd spent money on car/insurance in the first place they could of had a genuinely pucker ride
I must be getting old thou kuz the flip side is i dont think you should be allowed BIG BHP motors within a few years of passing test but i'm sure i'd feel different if i wasnt an ancient 26 lol
To summarise sports & 1.8 1.6's etc are still great cars & you are likely to get yerself a decent car & a relative bargain to boot init

Aii! for real! Didn't think you were having a dig but you are quite right, one one hand you have people going nuts that young drivers shouldn't be allowed to have turbos blah, blah, blah, Lax Bowel blah, blah, blah and then they turn around and have a fit when you suggest lower priced, lower powered alternatives

Come on people, make your mind up!

(Not a dig at you Si)
