Whts this Carbon Fibre all about then?
#1
Ok, I've seen people putting carbon fibre panels on thier cars but I dont get it!
I mean, if you got your car back from the paint shop and they're sprayed your bonnet a different colour to your car, wouldnt you be bit annoyed!!!
Is it done purely for weight loss, I can't see any reason to do it otherwise.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

I have a carbon bonnet on my jdm impreza, having had n ally one on it before i dnt think there is a huge weight saving, but it looks great. Look at a nice carbon bonnet properly and it is really impressive. Not black like they look in some pics.
Over the uk bonnet it is about half the weight, but then the sti ally ones are too.
For me id say its looks as im hardly saving a lot of weight on what i had. On a uk turbo itd be **** loads lighter.

Yep UK bonnets weigh a bloody tonne!
Carbon bonnets go for stupid money - depends which one you want. POC's one was a cusco one and your looking at about £1000 for that.
I emailed Norris Designs and they said about £1000
You can pick up a carbon bonnet, vents and scoop for around £600 though

so can you spray them the same colour as the car etc and make them look right? How much weight difference is there in the bonnet and the boot lid, would it make a performance difference, i still dont understand why yet! I can't imagine doing both will come to more than 50kgs which is peanuts considering you can effect the Power to Weight ratio by adding even a small engine mod.
Surely its only worth doing this once you've got 400hp+ and cant go much further with the engine and have no choice but to lighten the car?

i got mine with vents and scoop from te states and looked into getting one for mr wallis too, would be about 600 imported.
The quality is top notch though, lovelyfinish, perfect fit. Solid too with strengthening in carbon too. Many are not double skinned though and ar weak and flimsy. A decent carbon bonnet should be like a factory item.

Yep some bonnets can be sprayed to the colour of the car. So they look like a normal bonnet but are actually carbon.
Yeah - i want to go for 400+
Carbon bonnets look just as good as the carbon ones. Some are better than the standard one in designs. For instance, POCs carbon bonnet was damn nice, and was meant to be better for people with FMIC to

lol more like after seeing the condition that some of the crappy caron bonnets in the uk are, I thought it wise to not spray it incase it needed cutting down to accomodate the bonnet. Plus Paul at TSL advised me i may need to shave a tiny bit off the top as it was or a facelift on a classic car..... so I waited til I fitted the bonnet and now its off being sprayed and modded :P
Anyway frank u biatch that pic above was taken 2 days after I got the bonnet, the first sunny day so nyahhh...... So ho long is it you've had that evocomposites one collecting dust? lol
You best be nice to me biatch or ill get k to Laquer "maxer" and"morette performance lighting" into your carbon bonnet before i pick it up for you lol

The one I have, and the one POC has (I assume as they are both high ualit impoted jobbies) come with predrilled holes for the standard bonnet hinges and standard bonnet catch. Mine had metal threads moulded in and came with the bolts too. It sits and cloes just like the stock item.
The problem is, they are a lot lighter an although carbon is strong its flexible. The reason POC has pins and i need them is that at 70+ mph the wind makes the bonnet flap a bit. Im no happy wih the thought of it flying up at speed when it gets too much for the catch to hold.
You can use no bonnet pins, Ive been driving around with none fr a bit now. But its advised by the manufacturers that you do fr safety.

The pins did grow on me, think they make the car look more authentic, or gay, one or the other
I may have just stumbled onto a new carbon parts supplier, bonnets, roof vents, boots, door cards, flooring panels etc... will keep you lot updated!
Cheers
