Sorry mods - can you leave this here as I want a quick responce

I just went out and bought some Zimol car polish and am in the middle of polishing the car and it seems to come out really patchy. Any ideas as I don't want to carry on as it looks better as it was unpolished!

Any advice greatly recieved

This happened to me when I used it the first time. After some thought i decided that the paintwork was too hot after being in the sun all day. When I use it in the garage, it doesn't happen.

Just my 2p worth.

Is it the solid wax or the liquid that you're using?

In either case I would suggest putting less on than you think you need!

Certainly with the solid wax you only need the faintest trace of wax to produce the results.

I would suggest you are possibly applying too much?

Doesn't tent to work too well in cold weather either.

Thanks people - I waited till it was cooler out as the paint was very warm. I also used far less polish than I was using and WOW!

I am used to using Mer and so this is a whole different kettle of fish using just a tiny bit and rubbing it i well does the same as a vat of Mer (not dissing Mer - great stuff)

This stuff is really good (and I'm high off the nice smell now!)

Hmm, I don't know about it smelling nice. I've been using it all afternoon, and now I have a headache, and I can't get rid of the smell (you always get some of it on your hands!).

Seems to work quite well though.

The results look really good to me. It makes me wonder what the 'real' Zymol would be like.

The "real" Zymol as you called it is an excellent product. I think with car polish,wax etc you wuill only get what you pay for and Zymol is big money compared to cheaper brands.

Mer is a bit chalky for scoob paintwork and will leave swirls on the car as will Autoglym.

I would say without anyboubt that Zymol is probably one of the best polish products around.

I got a starter kit £180 I think, worth every penny if you are in to making your car look stunning. Its not for the faint hearted though. Read the instructions, and put aside 3 - 4 hours.

the Zymol stuff actually says to lightly spray with water after polishing, as this will set the level, and then final buff to finish

Does the bottle say "dump 1/3rd the water from the atlantic ocean directly onto ones vehicle and they buff dry"?????? - I think not

just like to say that I've started using zymol polish (from halfords)and so far it's produced the best finish so far.
I polished half my bonnet in zymol and the other half in a popular colour enriched polish and the results were the zymol gave a better shine/gleam than the other also hid the scratches just as well

Also when I just wash the car the shine is still good.

I've been a convert to Zymmol for a few weeks now. I did think that Autoglym was good stuff, but Zymmol doesn;t leave any residue, and so long as you buff with a clean cloth then all swirl marks disappear without a trace. The only thing you have to do is make sure that you don't use too much - a really small amount is all you need. The first time I used it I followed the autoglym policy of dumping loads onto the car - bad idea.

The water spraying bit I did the first time, but everyone looks at you like your mad - waxing your car then purpously covering it with a fine spray of water, then buffing it again.

Ah well, at least the smell is great.

The liquid Zymol Cleaner wax that you get from Halfords can give what appears to be a blotchy finish. This is very easily rectified. Wipe a wet cloth over a panel and buuff dry with a very, very soft towel. Then do the next panel and then the next etc.

It is caused by the uneven layer of wax and wiping it with a clean cloth "levels" the wax film. It does tell you about this on the instructoions. However it is only noticable on darker coloured paints.

i have used this for the first time a couple of weeks ago,after using a/g for some time was impressed with the way it went on and came off no dust or anything and the car looked alot fresher but the one thing i did notice was i have not got any little water droplets when it rains it just sits on the paintwork.does this stuff need a couple of coats to work or do i really need to do the wash off thing after ive polished it?

used the zymol wax from halfords,i think the secret is when applying use straight lines and try more or less to rub it into paintwork.After leaving a few minutes buff over,what a shine!!!!
i have a deep blue mica it came up really well,never tried the misting of water then buffing i will try this method next time...

If you can find it, I recommend you all try Simoniz Original (it's hard to find, as it's hard to apply and joe public can't cope, so it don't sell well) for about a fiver a tin (6-8 applications per tin). It's a solid Carnuba wax with no silicone rubbish, gleams like glass, lasts months, repells water and muck. I only use cold water to wash car for the 1st month or so after applying.
It might be discontinued soon as Holts have bought Simoniz, but I've got 20 tins in my shed. And no, I'm not selling them. But then again, how much do you loy pay for this Zymol stuff .

I saw this Zymol in Halfords today, should have got some by the sounds of it.

Been using Autoglym till now, is it really that bad?

Also looked at the Teflon stuff in Halfords - whats that like?
