Very nice.

I am defo going for a splitter like that.

Notice you have even got the h/l washers colour coded! I have reddish blue scoob at the moment but I think I will go silver on my next one.

Hi Molds,

Yep, the splitter was very easy to fit and looks great. Jen did all the colour-coding herself using the Halfords mix 'n' match paint and it's come out a near on perfect match. She also did the mirrors, headlamp and windscreen washer jets, side skirts and door handles, as well as tinting the front indicators and rear light clusters. I think all in all, the paint and primer came to about 50 quid and it's come out better than the front bumper which was resprayed professionally and has started to flake. However, you might get different results with reddish blue! Oh, and since that photo, we've now got the windows tinted which finishes the car off nicely:

Hi Chris

I really like yours and Jen's motor. One of the few on here without a high level spoiler! Are you street sleeping? In a Scooby lol

Did you buy the splitter pre painted? Not sure if just to buy it primed as I was going to have the front bumper/valance and bonnet re done this summer anyway.

Looks like Jen has done a good job on the other bits. Not sure I would trust myself with a spray can on the Scoob. Last time I used a Halfords spray can + P38 and P40 was back in 1988. My first Escort with obligatory rusty wheel arches

How did you mix and match the paint anyway? Ahh, thats where the spoiler is!! You took it into the shop like on the Dulux adverts

Not convinced about pimp tints though. Tart

Cheers

Matt

Edited because I forgot to ask something.

Are you rinning 16" wheels with standard suspension? I have been thinking about Eibachs and 17"s but that plus the 30-35mm drop of this splitter may be a bit slow over the speed bumps?

Pimp tints? Lol, they do look a lot darker in photos than they actually are! We bought the spoiler primed, but you can opt to have it painted by MRO which I think takes up to an extra week, but it's done by a professional outfit. Sure Jen or Rob will correct me! The Halford's mix 'n' match basically involves you getting the paint code off the VIN plate of the car and telling the Halfords parts desk what it is. They then key it into the computer and it turns your code into a 500ml paint can aerosol.

We didn't want the big spoiler on the back as everyone has those and we thought we'd be a bit different. As for the wheels, we're running 17" Radius R3's on standard suspension. Since tinting, colour coding and front lip, the car looks much lower, but we did have the Eibach springs on our shopping list. I think we'll probably be saving the money for the time being though as since the Powerstation geometry and bumpsteer settings, the car is plenty fast

lol @ you two

...yeah, we just brought it primed, but it was easy enough to paint Thanks for the compliments Matt, I wasn't too sure about trying it myself, but decided that the job the bodyshop did on our front bumper was awful so it couldn't be that hard 8 months on and still looking good

The tints aren't actually that dark - they're just 35% all around and 23% on the rear window - I think that day was very stormy and the black leather interior and moody new forest makes it look darker than it is I'll have to get some other photo's

[whisper]let us know how you go onthe springs, I havn't given up on them yet! [/whisper]

Jen

..oh and about the spoiler! I have to be a bit different

Thinking a bit more about whether to get MRO to paint the splitter or not. I reckon without the side skirts and rear colour coded as well it may look odd? My plan then is to get my front bumper/valance and bonnet re sprayed, and the skirts and rear splitter - all at the same time. Then I can order the front splitter painted and fit it myself.

Sounds easy enough to home fit as long as the moulding is spot on, i.e. no filling needed etc. MRO site mentions removing it in case you need the tow hook(s). Where are the screw holes? Imagine fitting those Eibachs and then trying to get a screw driver in if the holes are on the under side!

Simple enough, and doesn't involve trying to take your car or a part of it into the shop

Thats interesting. Most people seem to go for new rims and change sus at the same time. I had been pondering splitting rims and sus into two jobs rather than one hit on the wallet! Are you on OEM brakes or did you change them? Presume 17s aren't that much bigger than 16s to make the brakes look piddley?

I have read a lot of good things about the Powerstation bumpsteer mod. Not sure I am a good enough driver. Certainly I would be happy to lose the understeer, but I kind of like knowing I am pushing it a bit. From what others say the BS mod makes it that much better but is harder to guage when it will "let go". Undecided on that one but you two are obviously some more with their thumbs up.

Not sure I will get there before you?! MOT next week than its off to TSL for a downpipe to finsih off the zorst. Next up is the re spraying and colour coding + splitter. Rims and spings are after that. Sure SN will encourage and extension to the list to make sure it doesnt end there!

Cheers

Matt,

Let me try and answer some of those questions for you

- The lip spoiler is a perfect fit (and I mean perfect!!! ) and the screw holes are two on the top (one each side) and one each side in front on the wheels. Did them all without needing to jack the car up or remove any wheels! We did find though that the number plate holder was held on with security-head screws which B&Q advised us to drill out We bought a set of bits from Screwfix and can now reuse the screws if we need to

- The 17's were on the car when we bought it and the brakes didn't look too bad. We did however, upgrade them after using them and being quite distressed at how poor they were. They were replaced with Godspeed 4-pot calipers, 308mm disks (so they'd go under the 16's) and braided hoses and 4 dot fluid. Feel, work and look much better...

- We'd delayed the bumpsteer mod for the reasons you mention, but we only managed a measly 10.5k miles out of our front tyres just from commuting over 6 months and decided that we either had to get it set back to standard and lose the handling, or spend out on tyres regularly. Gave Powerstation a ring and they said they'd sort it and bumpsteer means the tyres will wear evenly. I think you'd have to do a lot to get the car to lose grip - we haven't managed it yet and it's surprising how much it still has as you plant your right foot coming out of the corner. And no, we're not great drivers either

Phew - that's a long reply. Hope it helps

Chris

...well, obviously I'm a great driver, but Chris isn't

(there was a little, very little, gap between the lip spoiler and the bumper in one place for about an inch, but nothing to worry about - however, I decided I'd like a more graduated effect anyway and got some of that stuff you use for the top of tiles/between your bath and your tiles from B&Q, colour-coded it silver and stuck it on the car! lol! Actually worked really well and covered up the gap (so you can imagine how small it really was)...doesn't look pants, but I'll take a close up pic if no-one believes me - oh, and Chris did think I was mad ) ..you can actually see it in the second pic compared to the first

Thanks Huffer. Will do.

Thought I would post back on this thread first as Jen sprayed hers and Chris'. I wondered if she did them on the car or took them off.

Off to do a search...

We took the side skirts off (just held on with screws and poppers - a bit like the rest of the car ) but did the rear bit on the car as I think someone said you needed to remove the bumper to take them off. Jen did write a guide I think - I'll dig it out for you...

OK, so that wasn't the one she wrote the guide for She said do a Scoobynet search for "weekend antics" by Moles Dad which where she got her inspiration from, but basically taking off the sills is just a few screws and poppers and I think they're only on the underside of the sill - run your fingers along and you should find them.

In terms of painting, here are her instructions:
* removed all the plastic bits I wanted to paint and cleaned them with
degreasing stuff ( I think I use fairy liquid!);
* rubbed down with 1200 wet and dry paper;
* wiped all the dusty bits away;
* 5 coats of primer (about 30 minutes apart); wait 24hours,
* However many coats of colour was necessary, I think I used about 4/5; wait 24 hours,
* Lacquer, as much as 'till it looked ok!

The suggestion is that you lacquer as soon as the last coat of paint goes on, but we didn't as it can apparently cause a crazy paving effect on the paint work.

In terms of technique, we followed other Scoobynetter's advice and went along the skirt (ie horizontal) for one coat and then across it (ie vertical) for the next coat to get a nice even finish.

Let us know if you have any more questions - we want to see pics of it so we can inspect your work when it's finished

Chris
