Hi all,
I am considering window tinting for my 4-door turbo and noticed that Larkspeed sell pre-cut kits for Scoobs. Sounds like a better option than buying it on a roll and messing about trying to cut it to the right size.
Has anyone bought and fitted one of these kits? If so, how easy was it to fit? I'm guessing that you have to remove all the door panels so that the film actually starts below the door rubbers to avoid it peeling off when the windows are wound up and down? Also, does the top edge need anything to stop it peeling when the glass meets the rubbers around the top of the window?
Or would I be better off having it professionally done? If so how much is it likely to cost and does anyone know of anywhere in Hull that does a good job?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Dude,
£29.99 for rear screen and sides
£19.99 for front sides
or £47.50 for full car (excluding front windscreen of course!)
Choice of shades available too!
I'm just not sure how easy it is to fit 'cos I've seen cars with tinted windows that are full of bubbles and rips and it looks sh1te!

I tried with one of the cut your own kits and it was cr4p, so i ripped it all out within a day - waste of £30!
Pre - cut does sound good tho
£50 - is it worth the risk?!?!?!?!?!!?!

I suppose you could limit the risk by just spending £30 on the rears and see how it goes??
Apparently the secret is to soak the window with water which has a small amount of washing up liquid added to it before you apply the film. Then use a squeegee to get rid of the water and bubbles from between the film and the glass. Oh and it's better to do it when it's warm! Sounds too easy doesn't it - there must be a catch!?!?!
Might have to give it a go........

Thats what I did with the tints I had - all I can say is make sure there is no wind (not even a slight breeze)
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Don't need an adult!!
Just remove the wondows completely from the car, take them inside, then do it.
1)Make sure they are 100% clean and dry.
2)Mix up lukewarm water and fairy liquid (in that order to avoid bubbles).
3)cover window in said mixture.
4)Place tint on Window, and position accordingly.
5)Use a blunt object, (such as a bic Biro) to Carefully work out all fluid from under the film in a silgle horizontal sweep, starting at the top of the window, and continuing until you have done the same for the whole thing. If you want to make sure you don't scratch the film, wrap some tissue around said blunt object.
6)Once all windows are successfully completed, replace them into the car. Job done.
I have done this a few times for friends of mine, but always pay the extra to get it done professionally myself. These kits are ok, but generally only last for a while before they start to peel off and scratch etc. It's the same as anything really, if you want it to look really good, you have to pay I'm afraid!
Good luck though guys!!!

i DIY-ed on my old 93wrx. took the windows out and tinted indoors. no air bubbles but deffo will get some dust, which after some time will create small air bubbles. but overall spent £30 for both front and rears. i can call it a decent job but not perfect.
i'm quite sure there are cheaper tinting services out there.

There are indeed! Pentagon in Bristol quoted me £250 for security film tinting, which has the added attration of reducing insurance while looking cool!! (Cheaper insurance because it prevents windows from smashing!!)

i have just had a price of £220 inc vat for my wagon
Has anyone got a picture of a green wagon with tints?
do you think it would look odd with the rear windows and rear quarter sections a shade darker than the front windows?
the chap who does it is a pro with 1000 aprox cars done and ive seen photos any problems with tints? bubbles catching on frames etc?
thanks

Lord Harding,
£220 all in doesn't sound too bad. Does that include the rear windscreen as well? And does it include the installer taking your windows out of the vehicle like Twigster mentioned?
I don't think it will look odd having the front windows a shade lighter than the rears, I was thinking of doing the same myself. The car's gonna look darker at the back anyway 'cos all the rear windows will be tinted but at the front there'll still be light getting into the car through the windscreen.

OPM they did a good job and they give a lifetime guarantee, takes about 4 hours to do. He has different shades of black i went for dark on the back and back side windows and lighter on the front.
