As far as I am aware the FA have said that they will definatley not alter the 4 teams that have quailified for the 2006 champions league via their league position but will request UEFFA to add Liverpool into the competion next season.
There is a UEFFA meeting in June to decide if they will give Liverpool a place in the champions league.

Surely if they are not consistant enough to get 4th place in the PL they dont have the right to defend the champions league.
They cant put on a show up against a few European teams and then not play well enough to gain a euro place in the league and expect European football to re-write the rulebooks for them

To be honest UEFA has to change the rules but only starting next season.
I can understand why people want Liverpool in next years CL but qualifying for the 2005/6 CL were clearly laid out at the start of the season, you can't change the rules as and when just because the winners didn't finish 4th or higher in their own league.
I would like to see Liverpool in the comp next year but I would understand if they are not entered.

If they have qualified for it by the rules why should they be dumped out?

I totally agree the holders should be able to defend, it seems ridiculus, but I dont think another team should be kicked out, must be another way?
Man U won nothing , if someone is to be kicked out I vote for them

JOHANSSON BACKS REDS CAUSE
Steve Hunter 29 May 2005
UEFA president Lennart Johansson has backed Liverpool's case for a Champions League place next season and says the winners should defend their title. Johansson said that football's European ruling body must make a decision as a "matter of a real urgency".
Johansson said: "The winner should have a chance to defend the title.
"We must sit down to see if there is a way to make it happen. If there is a rule that harms the tournament, we have to discuss changing the rule."
