Question

I have a GT Karakoram hard tail an wondered if it's possible to upgrade the bike to disc brakes?

doesn't look like it, easily anyway, can't see any disc brake bosses on the forks or on the rear of the frame

Lightbulb

to do it you'd need a new fork & new hubs, you can i think get brackets to fit the caliper onto your frame at the rear

I suspected the forks would need replaced, but I wasn't sure about the rears. The bikes a good 6yrs old now so doesn't have any points on the frame for disc brakes.

Thumbs up

lol - I like logic like that

I bought a bike in January which was a hardtail Cannondale mainly to use for commuting and a bit of weekend biking. I soon realised that I really liked taking it offroad and I've started doing it more seriously (been to the Alps, the Lakes and last week I cycled from the West coast to the East coast of Scotland).

My bike is a hybrid and only has 18 gears and I struggled up some of the serious climbs so I've therefore persuaded myself to buy a new bike with 27 gears, full suspension etc

Not the most financially astute bit of purchasing I've ever done but there are worse things to waste your money on....

If you plan on upgrading your forks, you can then fit a front disc brake only. No real need for the rear anyway. You can also get a torsion bar adapter from Hope that would fit the rear.

PS. I can do you a good price on some brand new disc only wheels
