Angry

Just saw the team formation for the match against Portugal and noticed that Sven has put Heskey on the left wing (again).

Is it just me or is he absolutely toilet for England? He can't cross to save his life, he has the first touch of an elephant and no real skill. How many times does he receive the ball only to fall flat on his a**.

Please Sven, find someone else!

P.S. I don't rate him as a striker either!

Red face

Heskey
The new John Barnes

With respect to him always being picked for England and the fans still shaking their heads, not for his footballing abilities, even the die hard scousers at work finally admitted defeat over Heskey during the World Cup, lets see how many times he passes it out of play, get caught offside, passes to the oposition, falls over, doesnt run into space

You know he's gonna bang a couple in now and have the game of his life

Cool

I won't stick up for Heskey, but he does do a lot of running and working.

Just a shame that whenever it counts he doesn't deliver

25,000 substitutions and Heskey still plays 90 minutes, even though he wasnt that bad today, I would have prefered to have seen that scally Bowyer have longer, he looked OK and made some good runs which his colleagues ignored
1-1 a fair result to many subs, friendlies are becoming a bit of a joke nowadays.

Don't start me on that absolute waste of space. If the Scousers want to spend £11m-odd on him then that's up to them.....but not in the England team please. He is not bloody international class.

Heskey is terrible - a joke for England. He's got the touch of a Sunday League player. Why Sven keeps playing him on the left is a mystery to me.

Cool

(Flame Suit ON)
I'll hold my hands up as actually being a fan of Heskey, but I do agree it is time to try something else, because he plainly isn't, and never will be a left winger. I'd like to see some combination of Wayne Bridge & Ashley Cole down that side personally.

Thumbs up

I agree with Bridge and Cole playing down the left. Bridge (at left back) seems more disciplined than Cole when it comes to tackling. Cole (on the wing) looks more effective going forwards.

Has Sven ever tried this?

I think Heskey is more effective as a substitute, coming on with about twenty mins left to rough-up the opposition and cause chaos!

I've been saying this for ages about using Bridge and Cole down the left. Cole is an attacking player by nature, in fact, I think he played as a striker once upon a time. That would be an end to our left sided problem, I have no doubt, and would give the team a lot more balance, something that we never have.

If we can see it then why can't the bl00dy manager?

It was the perfect opportunity to try it (Bridge and Cole on the left) on Sat against Portugal, isn't that why we have friendly matches???

Only caught the first half but thought Bowyer and Smith looked quite good. Smith's finish was superb!

Going back to Heskey on the left... I remember Sven saying that he knows what Heskey is capable of doing, which is why he plays him so often.
