Scotland Vs England Threads

This is a WORLD CUP forum, not a place for xenophobia and inferiority complexes.
A number of people are trying to persuade Simon(the webmaster) to create a football forum, and attitudes like those shown in here(on both sides) are'nt helping their case.
It's a common fact that the majority of Scots won't support and England team, and that most English will support scotland/wales or Ireland(both). Nobody is forcing anyone to support anybody.
It's definatley time to have the yearly England Vs Scotland/Ireland/Wales matches again, as this would provide an outlet for these feelings. With the busy premiership/european schedules I can't see it happening.
So to sum up. If you want a football forum then discuss it properly, not like a bunch of louts about to throw coins at the players from the stands. Because if things continue as they are then football talk will be resigned to non scooby and xenophobic posts consigned to either the muppet forum or the delete key

I back up Neil's statement entirely.
This forum has been excellent for some lighthearted banter and general support of teams (especially England) through the world cup tournament.
I would like to see a Footy or Sports forum go up permanently. Unfortunately, if this idiotic hatred and abuse from a minority of both Scottish and English so called fans continues then we may very well not see it at all.
Banter is all very well, but sometimes the limits are pushed too far.
GROW UP!!!!!!!!!

I'm not pointing any fingers and as I said this applies to BOTH sides.
It does'nt matter who does what. It's if it continues that matters. As far as I'm concerned if this continues ON BOTH Sides, no matter who posts what then come late August Scoobynet will not have a football forum and so discussions relating to this sport will be consigned elsewhere.
Now Simon has not said there WILL be a footy forum, but behavoir displayed here will make it a hell of lot less likely.

I also agree. I do not like football but like a laugh and I do not mean about the game but a bit of friendly banter. It has now got a bit out of hand and even the moderators are getting involved, see below

I agree, "take it on the chin" we always have to.

Taz, Yeah I noticed that anol, a couple of the moderators have been guilty of this, not very moderate is it now.
Show me any Scottish comments as xenophobic as this though?
'Funny how the Scots are so inferior to the English?? It must be due to a history of always coming 10th best?? they must be REALLY pi55ed off at England always doing better than them in EVERTHING!!
You have just GOT to question a man who thinks its smart to put a Frock on obviously the old brain isnt working at all well'

Little miss - your sentence is perfectly clear - there is a minority of scoobynetters getting involved (roughly 20 out of 14,000) - But I'm afraid your fellow Moderators (you've OK from what I've seen) have almost to a man got involved in the name calling (and worse). Lead by example and we sheep will follow

Sorry Neil, but disagree.
As moderator (as opposed to a Scot ) I have to say that fingers should be pointed.
Certain posts by England supporters were OTT and quite inflamatory. I asked for moderation then but none was forthcoming. Scoobynet lets them stay on, then Scoobynet has to accept that there will be a retaliation.
Thats life mate.
Don't worry though, it will all blow over fairly quickly.
Anyway, here's a bit of fun at our expense..LOL....

Mikes,
Maybe the people who won't support England are more vocal than the ones that do and so gives the impression that it's the majority.
It seems to me that a lot of people are on here to stir things up.
Have some mods, joined in. Of course, they are human and surely have the right to be patriotic? Do they occasionally say things they should'nt? Of course the same as anyone. However it takes two to stir things up, one to provoke, the other to respond. So no matter who provokes it's our adult and mature responsibilty not to respond..
All i'm saying is if the provocation and response continues then this forum will be shutdown at the end of the WC.

Neil - Have watched the footie in two pubs, one office and in my house (all in & around Aberdeen). Total number of Scots involved - approx 500. Total number wanting England to be beaten - my guess is approximately 495 - Don't try and dispute the facts - try to work out the reasons

Neil,
maybe those English that support Scotland, Wales and Ireland are afraid to stand up and be counted? Hence we get the impression that very few support us.
I agree there's stirrers on both sides - nothing new there then.
Maybe winning in 1966 didn't do you any favours, England expects and all that. The other home nations are just glad to get as far as the tournaments.

1966 was over 30 years ago I get fed up with people going on and on about it, and because we won it once and we invented the sport it's our God given right to win it again.
Fact is, our team was'nt good enough this time around, next time? Who knows. But what will stand us in better stead is if we forget about 1966 and move on from that, rather than carping back to the old days all the time.
So many teams thought that it was their God given right this time round and they went out. I wonder if theres a pattern there somewhere...
