Default Tunnel Run Casualty ;)

We had fun tonight, testing out the "Lunch Control" .......

......Until one of the rear driveshafts decided to snap in half

The RAC took 4 hours to get to us, and we're now on the way home with the car on the back of a flat-bed lorry....

It could be time for a set of uprated shafts

Was lucky to see you testing the launch control..... wow!!!!!!! Looked amazing wished I had my video cam with me ;(. That's one seriously fast classic, think we need to talk

As for Budgie, ouch! - was it in the limehouse link tunnel by any chance? Clipped my passenger rear wheel too but they were only 17s no alloy damage

I'm too scared to use my launch control thru fear of the damage it can cause to the clutch and other bits. I was told that the shims can even jump out the whats-it in the who-ja-maflip... basically launch control is for the brave or those deep in pocket

I initially wondered WTF had happened when it snapped. When i tried to pull away again the transmission was making some nasty banging noises and the car wouldn't move forward at all
I locked the centre diff up and drove straight off, no problem - glad i got that DCCD box

Alex - Got a twin plate clutch, and no shims in my motor, so should stand up to a fair bit of that sort of abuse, just need some better shafts to get the power onto the tarmac

So sorry to hear that mate,
Weren't you 4 up as well? the extra weight wouldn't have helped, Putting the standard shafts through a bit of punishment whats the rev's when it drops?
I was behind you from leaving Thurrock over the bridge that thing goes through the gears so fast bit of a sleeper from the back until you put ya boot in and all hell breaks loose!

I've actually been given your name by a few of the MSOC (Budge,Rick,Mags,Jon,Woods,Guv in fact think they all bigged you up!) to have a look at my motor I need someone I can trust.......
Guessing that you'll be busy with yours for a bit so please if you could let me know when your not up to ya elbows with yours!!

Cheers Russ!

I stripped the shaft out this afternoon, and found that the inner CV joint has eaten itself. The splines on the shaft have twisted too, so really i need to replace both rear shafts, as i can't imagine the other side is going to last very much longer... Ooops!

Russ - Drop me a PM about your car

Twin plate, bet thats heavy going on the left foot... not exactly town driving-friendly, lol.
I guess shafts snapping is better than shims going as that'd be internal damage galore...

Good luck gettin your car up and running again!

The Exedy Twin Plate is great - the pedal operation is like a stock clutch Lin uses the car every day for work and doesn't complain about it!

Thanks to my mate Stuart, I'll have some replacement shafts this afternoon and we'll be back on the road by tonight. I've bought two pairs, one to fit now and the others to get shot-peened and modified to try to make them a bit stronger
