Question

Can anybody recommend a good "sold secure" mechanical security device for either steering wheel or pedals/handbrake for an MY01.

Thanks

Mark

I bought a disklock steering wheel lock. Covers the whole wheel, which I believe to be the best of this type of lock on the market. Thatham approved.

Thumbs up

Mark,

defo the DiskLock - both a physical and visual deterrent.

The Barrier Deadlock (which locks the car in gear) is also hard to defeat, but not quite so visible, so they might still attempt a break-in.

Barrier Deadlock is brill. Bullet-proof lock and welded bits on gear-change mechanism under the car make it very hard to break (unless you're only 4in tall and have a welding torch). I don't know of any magazine test that it has failed. It's not that common, so thieves don't know much about it.

Only probs are cost (£200-plus because it needs a ramp and welding to fit) and the fact that it is so discreet you may get broken into before the b@astards even discover the problem. Webmaster Simon de Banke also rates it highly.

It only takes one second to lock it, and five seconds to unlock, so mine is ALWAYS used, even when stopping for petrol. Who can honestly be arsed with one of those steering-wheel things when filling up for fuel? Even though it's a prime spot to get car-jacked?

I've printed out a warning notice (laminated for durability) that sits in the oddments tray under the ash tray, which I hope will catch the eye of any scum. Maybe even better, print out a warning on A4 yellow/red and leave it on the dash when you park.

Barrier Deadlock are on 0151 489 4889. This would make a good Group Buy offer, which I have no intention of organising or have anything to do with. I'm just a satisfied customer.

Best regards,

Richard.

I think the main thing is that

a) its highly visible
b) its thatcham/sold secure so a wouldbe theif knows its gonna be a pain to get off

I went for the disklok in nice bright yellow!!!

You wont scare off the professional crook - but at least it helps make the amateur opportunist move on to the next car IMHO
