Default don't want to pay £300 for some one to fit a £110 (retail) alarm in two hrs any ideas

As above really
I don't mind someone making a living but seems a little steep to me, and don't try the 'losing your pride and joy' etc, argument as its just a car made by some clever Japs that is insured and can be replaced.
However it would be a little inconvenient so deserves a little money being spent, (I'd like to think that I'm not a cheap scape just thrifty)
Cheers MM

if your too tight to have it done by a professional why not fit it yourself?

You obviously don't value the installers skill, training, investment in tools etc....

Valued Point by Car Security Expect

You can buy the best alarm in the world and if it is fitted poorly then it will be the worst.

Its worth getting a proffesional to install the alarm these guys know there stuff and you get a warranty behind the product as well!!
£300 is cheap if you value your motor, its up to you!

Hi CSE

if you want to word/take it that way then thats up to you, I wasn't knocking the trade per se, just the price for what I've been told is a 2-3 hr job = £85 /hr!

I don't pay that for mechanics and am not prepared to pay that for alarm sparkies.

I was wondering if any one knows of someone in Northants area who is competitively priced

or at least, highly recommended

I called one company who had a sales desk etc etc, you are just paying for the office and pot plants, not a better alarm.

thanks for the replies

The way insurers see it... Its not CAT1 unless you have that little bit of paper to say a pro installed it

I see where youre comin from mate, but unless you know someone in the trade, youre gonna be paying a fair bit.
Fitting round here oop wigan can be had for £150 plus your alarm IIRC
Seems its going rate.

If its a cat 1 alarm its only valid if fitted by an approved/certified fitter, so really its up to you

How much are you willing to pay?

How much would you be expected to make if you were doing it as a job?

I would like to pay as little as possible of course!

I would like reasonable not free fitting as stated in my first
post, I do want believe that £400 a day (2 alarms) is a reasonable rate, that would be £100,000 a year .(weekends off)

I think that is excessive, maybe I have missed something but that would seem to be the figures to me.(someone please enlighten me)

So I am still to open to any help and considering fitting alarms as a hobby (well paid at that)

MM

£100000 less vat = £87000

less general business expenses including rent, rates, electricity, water, vsib fees, mesf fees, insurance, vehicle insurance, vehicle leasing, tools, on going training expenses, installation accessories(including cable ties, heatshrink, gas, tape, screws)
based on my own business.... approx £50,000

so thats now down to £37000 a year before tax, fuel expenses and other general unknown expenses.

I was expecting you to be going for a better alarm since you said £110 retail!

£195 is about the going rate for one of those. They are only entry level systems but they will satisfy the insurance.

It's actually their entry level cat 1 as well as being their top of the range cat 1. Purely because it's Toad's ONLY cat 1. Unless you take into consideration the Sterling One. Which means they have 2, almost identicle, Cat 1 alarms.

The Maxx 1 is Hornet's top of the range, Cat 1. but then again it's Hornet's ONLY Cat 1.

Well I was impressed with the chap that came to fit it , been fitting 15 yrs etc. arrived on time , took him just over 2 hrs VSIB cert. on completion, job done.

Been on a couple of weeks and no false alerts great stuff!

That other deal you've posted SE, looks very competitive for the northern folks.

Everybodies happy
