Default SmartNav - is it worth it?

Hey ho,

Just got my lovely 55/2006 STi and it's got SmartNav installed. I know nothing about this system - never heard of it before, and have TomTom installed on my TytnII mobile phone. Is it really worth using the SmartNav system - I don't habe the screen so I guess it's a verbal system only, whereas I like the TomTom to get an accurate idea on speed etc.

Thanks,

m

Hi mate I have one in my06 sti, Gone wrong at the moment and it can be expensive to get repaired if you are out of warranty (I have a link about this on this page somewhere) If you haven't got the screen I would keep it and use it as the tracker.
If you do choose to keep it you can get the screens on Ebay the Speed Safe device is good but its just one more thing you have to pay out

Your not missing much TBH.
Smartnav was free for a year on my car but the renewal cost was too much for a very basic navigator with traffic info. I have to keep the tracker subscription though.
The screen is only useful if you have the navigator subscription.

I have also gone back to my TYTN with Tomtom + TT traffic - it is far superior and costs a lot less.

Hey ho - thanks for that. I have a TytnII with Tomtom and traffic. I think I'll much prefer that.. May be worth it for the tracker then, although I hear now that some people are choosing not to have tracking on their vehicles as if it's nicked, they don't want it back.

They must be crazy... You will lose a lot more money by not getting it back compared to getting it back. When you have a tracker fitted the car is generally found quickly and in a lot of cases it is in the same condition as it was before it was taken.
