Default cat 1 alarm advice

I have seen another car I like

It has a cat 1 alarm on it but after speaking to the guy he can't find the certificate. Does this mean the alarm is no use ?

If the alarm is Thatcham approved do thatcham keep a log of every car that has a cat 1 or 2 alarm installed so I can apply to them for a certificate ?

Cheers

If the alarm is non standard ie not fitted at manufacture the you will need a certificate for insurance purposes. If not your insurance company may refuse cover until they have it checked. Cost me £25 to have a Vecta certificated a few years back

but do they have a log somewhere of the certificate (not the insurance either the company who installed it or thatcham)

surely somewhere must log it otherwise everyone would tell the insurance they had a cat 1 alarm ?

No I dont think so, they cannot claim to have a cat 1 alarm when they need to produce a certificate.... thats the whole point.

Find out the make and model of the alarm and who installed it as it has to be installed by an approved fitter otherwise....you guessed it....no certficate

just go to your local alarm place and ask them to certify it, should cost you around £30
