Sorry to steal your Alarm theme Scott, however I am interested in the Tracker options out there....anyone have any good/bad/preferences on the subject of tracker units ??? My insurance is due and all but one (Bell Direct - expensive) are insisting on tracking devices.

Hello,
I have the RAC Trackstar fitted and have had no problems with it at all.
The thing that attracted me to this system was that if the car moves further than about 10 metres they will call you and let you know rather than wait for you to realize its gone and then activate the search.
There is also a function that if you press one of two buttons on the fob you can either speak to RAC HQ or direct to emergency services, they hide a mic and speaker in the car somewhere. They then know exactly where you are straight away if you need assistance.

Tracker Monitor / Horizon also alerts the centre and in turn you if the car is moved without the immobiliser being disarmed. the models that do not do this are not popular with the insurance companies and will not get you a discount.
Some other makes require a dongle to be with the person to disable the tracker like a keycard, depending on how organised you are this is a good or bad thing, me id lose it so i am sterring clear of these.
I think your main choices are Tracker monitor / horizon and RAC trakstar. shop around for prices a lot of people only do list but you can get discounts (I havent found anthwere that dicounts RAC Trakstar). you might be able to get a Tracker horizon for the same price as a RAC trackstar and that in my view is the best option as it uses both radio network and gps.
Im going for a tracker monitor as it is the cheapest option and I have used tracker before.
