Default New Scobby v Older Scooby - Advise Sought

Guys,

New to the site, only joining on Thursday after test driving 2 Impeza's of which one I am buying.

I test drove a 2006 WRX (old shape) and a 2007 WRX (new shape) within 10 minutes of each other at same showroom. Fully appreciate that the new shape has been built for more added comfort etc...... however I was led to believe both should have roughly the same performance. The difference in the two cars I drove performance wise was quite dramatic and the old shape felt much faster. Is this indeed correct or maybe something wrong with the newer model I drove?

Reason I ask is that I have gone for the 2006 WRX (old Shape) but still have the option of changing it for the newer model so just wanted some more experiend Subaru views pse.........

They will be pretty much the same performance wise, but the power delivery will be the difference you are feeling.

I take it the 2006 is a blobeye 2 litre and the 2007 is a hawkeye 2.5 litre?

there won't be a dramatic difference as they are about the same weight and same power, perhaps the 2.5 FELT not as quick as the turbo lag is less perceptable due to the increase in torque before boost compared to the 2.0l. big lag followed by big boost can make a car seem much much quicker than it is when accelerating though the gears. or maybe the 2.0l has had a remap.

guys thanks for replies - the 06 was a 2.5WRX SL and the new shape 07 was 2.5WRX. Therefore smae engine size and not a 2.0 - the 07 was much smoother and it felt as though you had to really work it to get the car to kick in, in comparision.

Cullenmin - poss correct it is the power delivery kicking in faster in the 06 plate?

Default New shape or old?

Hi guys I just joined but have to say I would not swap my 2000 turbo wagon for any neew shape car and intend to buy the Mrs an STI around the same year, they look better although I still like the new 06 / 07 models, lets face it no matter what Impreza we all drive they always turn heads. On the other hand You always know when one is coming up the street due to that lovely sound they make.
