If you go further up than Ullapool then head up towards Lochinver and then take the long way (single track road) to Kylescew (sp?). Great roads when you attack them in a scooby - looking forward to taking them on in the S2000 this year

When travelling up by ullapool, keep following the whole coastline right round to the east coast. Dunnets head and castle of mey you are looking for. well woth it. Fuel up in Thurso to head back down coeast.Gorgeous scenery! This is digs in john o groats! Superb wee place, cheap too!http://www.radit.org.uk/noveltyhouse/

Cheers Chichispie !
Checking out Optimax stations on the map and the locations given by Shell, and there seem to be no Optimax stations North of Glasgow on the W coast !!!!
Does anyone know better, as they missed one of the Shell stations in Bury St Edmunds off their list.

stan, i live in thurso mate, optimax doesnt exist north of inverness, infact the only place i know where to get optimax is nairn.. then head further south and its more common.
We do have super unleaded (no chance of even that on the west coast)- only in thurso though so bring your octane booster if your taking a vist up this end of the country.
I can certianly recomend the roads out by dunnet/john o' groats, to be honest the A9 from inverness to thurso is a great road - well, as soon as your past Golspie it is anyway. (about half way)
if staying in groats watch your car mate, the locals drink and drive like it's normal and the quick way home is through the park.... although they are convinced its the main road..!!!
Police cameras, what are they?

Thanks very much for taking the time/trouble to reply guys - much appreciated !
May need to have a remap using 97 octane for holidays and reload the normal map on return !!!! May work out cheaper and safer than carrying large amounts (30litres) of methanol (octane booster)to do 1500 miles!

Hi mate
I stay 10 miles east of nairn and, like willfal said, thats the only place you'll get optimax (Elgin has it but thats going a bit off your route if your up the west coast). If you are around fortwilliam at all def take a run out the mallaig road. Nice windy road and if you get a nice day, some stunning scenery! Unless you get the ferry to skye (quite expensive i think) you have to come back the same road but thats not really a bad thing.
Have a good trip Stan.
