Cool Safety on trackdays...

Hi Everyone
Am new to this so thought I'd pose you a question.
Anyone seen a classic 5dr with a roll-cage?
Is it a worthwhile proposition or would it be better to get a 4 dr to modify?
Recently saw the clip of the Evo7 RS on a French track (thx for pointing it out John Evo/STi) and it got me thinking.
And also the fact I rolled a standard Catalunya and killed it........and nearly myself.........oops......

Welcome mate.
To be honest, i wouldn't bother, not unless you are gonna be going mental on track.
Also, think about when you're not on the track, dont fancy having a bump and rattling my head of a cage with no helmet on !!!

But then....they do look cooool !!

Other thing with having a rollcage is you should be strapped down tightly in the seat to avoid having the roll cage itself actually kill you if you get thrown against it.

Some people use harnesses with the std Turbo seats, but I'm pretty sure these would actually collapse in a severe accident.

Certainly most "proper" track cars I've seen with cages have proper seats and harnesses fitted too.

It's really something you need expert advice on IMHO.

Too late for me to go mental on the track. Went mental years ago....

You are quite right though the bars would need padding etc. If it was just for the cool looks I'd get one of the Jap cosmetic cages that seem to be fitted to a few of the RA's about. If I go for one I would prefer the security and peace of mind of a Safety Devices or Rollcentre cage. Probably just a 6pt bolt in. Need to do something to the motor as I'm losing interest in it. Can't afford the ones I would be interested in!

Quite agree Stefan. As I don't use the car for commuting I don't see why I shouldn't mod it a bit. Was thinking cage, buckets, harnesses and extinguisher. Problem there is its the wrong motor to start with really. Would be better to start with an R or RA maybe and eventually end up with a motor I could do the odd clubman event in too, in the years to come.

Hi John
What's this about braking before the corners? Thought I was but youve probably 2 or 3 times as many pots as me!

I can do the first 4 mods but perhaps KH can help with the exclusion zone....

Who is Gza? Didn't have any passengers....

Cheers Brian

Hi Brian
Yup that was me. Guessed you were in the silver one. Glad you enjoyed the event.
8th Scoob but only 2nd Impreza. Had a GMC Syclone for 2 years. 330bhp, 350 torques (as Clarkson would say) and 0-60 in 4.3 secs as a standard car. Since I got the Impreza I just have to leave home earlier to get places on time!
Cheers A. Nother Brian
