TAYSIDE POLICE & TINTED WINDOWS; FYI
Taken from local press

Tayside Police are launching a crackdown on the growing number cars with tinted windows.
Officers are to be equipped with special meters to mea- sure how dark the windows are.
If they are found to breach new regulations, drivers face losing their licence.
Officers are concerned that tinted windows can reduce the view the driver has of other road users and traffic conditions.
Constable Iain MacNicol, from the western division road policing unit, said: "If a vehicle with tinted front side windows or a windscreen is involved in a collision, then the driver's reduced view is likely to be a major contributory factor to that collision.
"If this is the case, then the insurance may be invalid due to the vehicle not being road legal."
The effect depends on the level of tint applied, but generally it reduces the amount of light that gets through the windows into the vehicle.
The legal minimum visible light transmission is 75% for windscreens and 70% for front side windows.
A recent amendment to this legislation now clarifies that the regulations apply to the glass and any tint, film or other substance or material applied to the glass.
Constable MacNicol said: "Tayside Police are now equipped with several photo optic window tint meters that measure this on vehicle windows.
"Road policing officers will be using the devices to enforce the law and promote road safety."
Penalties vary, but the maximum is a charge of dangerous driving, which carries a minimum one-year disqualification and a fine of up to £5,000.
The vehicle may be ordered off the road until the tinting has been removed

I got pulled in Aviemore about a year ago in the Skyline and they measured it and told me to get it removed. Had to go to an MOT centre to verify it was ok and get them to stamp the 'its ok now' sheet.
Wish they'd put as much effort into stopping scumbags ripping spoilers of p1's, or catching them afterwards !!!

Removed my Tints 2 months ago because of this, car looked better with them but too much hassle with insurance company etc.
Wonder how long it will be before the police in Aberdeen are down the beach slapping notices on all the bouley bashers

Johnny,
I had mine removed at around the same time as Boyakasha - it is really not worth the hassle if you need to use insurance for anything, or getting stopped and told to remove them, or getting unneccessary attention. There is enough of that as it is.
Best go for the JAP look - I quite like it now with the rears and rear screen done!!
Brian.
