Question What gauges you all got?

Seriously looking at getting some form of engine monitoring fitted. I've posted in the general Technical, but seeing as I would like it done local, I'm asking here as well.

My main cause for concern is trackdays. Now that I can stop it lap after lap, undoutably I'm straining the engine more. Good to get this stuff fitted before about some ponies, although that won't happen this year Need to learn to drive it first.

What is everyone using? Engine temp/pressure, boost, Knocklink, SECS.

I remember Scottish Menace having a very natty triple gauge set-up, but cannot remember what they are called. By the way Dave...where are you??

Also would be helpful if you could indicate where you had them fitted or if it is a simple diy job. How do you rate the stuff you have? Any pics??

Thanks...John

Hi John.

I recently bought some Defi BF`s for my classic.
Oil Temp, oil pressure, and boost.

Have to say i`m mega impressed with them, i could mail you a few pics tomorrow.

I bought mine from Stiracing, and got AWD up in Perth to fit them.

Knocklink would be the first to get even above a boost gauge IMHO.

I doubt that with a standard engine the oil/water temperatures would be an issue, but gauges could help identify failures, as could oil pressure, without using slicks I doubt you would drop the pressure on track.

Fuel pressure is handy if you have an aftermarket regulator.

Boost pressure helps you spot overboost as well as fault conditions.

I have Knocklink, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure and Boost right now and I'll (once I get my finger out) fit a LamdaLink at the weekend.

Knocklink is essential. You'd be surprised just what activity you can see even after using a different forecourt or swapping between fuels.

Temp has shown me just how long I need to let the car warm-up before giving it stick. Pressure has never been an issue, although on slow, tight turns (e.g. parking) I've noticed the pressure drop very low. Don't think you'd be going slow enough when out driving for this to be an issue. Even on some hard stops from 3-figures to zero, my pressure gauge has never flashed any warnings.

I want to try running a little more boost, so that's why I've fitted a Boost gauge and (soon to be) AFR gauge.

Now you mention it John, I've never seen a post from Dave in a long time. Hope all's well.

Stefan

I have defi guages, same as Scottish menace, although IIRC his are 60 mm and I think mine are the wee versions (never measured em) Drop by and see em if ya fancy.
Boost, Oil Preasure and oil temp on mine, KL planned as soon as I get some money but if your decatting I would agree with JB on getting one fitted.
If your serious about monitoring I would say Defi's, KL and SECS but were getting a bit expensive, IMHO this would give ya everything ya need to see and then some.

John i'm interested in some Defi's myself, boost, oil temp, oil press, control unit + pod to be exact. Have been waiting for a group buy to take shape (i'm in no rush) but fear starting the ball rolling as i'm unable to organise it with my rota etc.

Just mentioning it incase you may be interested in getting a few names together?

Was this deal that caught my eye.

EDIT - click on 3 gauge deal on the RHS.

John,

I have rev counter, speedometer, fuel and temperature. You should have bought a WRX - they all come as standard.

I have just mailed them...
Hi there,

I was recently pointed in the direction of your website and am interested in your Defi Impreza 3 Gauge Deal. I was wondering if this deal still stood as the page hasn't been updated for nearly 2 years?

I am also considering the possibility of organising a ScoobyNet (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk) group buy around this deal, if it's still on of course. Would any discounts be available for say 5 or maybe 10 buyers?

I look forward to your response.

Best Regards
Carl Davey
Marc, i just picked the page up in passing through a thread on here. Can't remember the specific content of the exact thread, i just saved the link because of the dirt-cheap Defi's!

Alan, i remember i spoke to you regarding the Defi's you got from Gav. I would naturally approach him too (theoretically.... ) seeing as he's a local chap and i know him from my Vauxhall days. <shudder>

I was sure NAM ceased trading at least 1.5yrs ago. They did turn their hand to supplying NF and I think Dingy still does this.

Yes they are in bridge of don not far from B&Q. Am not 100% sure what i paid but i think it was around the £600 mark for 52mm boost, oil p & oil t, controller unit and defi pod.

Is it yourself that works with colin taylor?

Carl,
Personally I would get the best price you can and then see if gav can match it.

Off the subject but how much were you for you 18's if you don't mind me asking. Gav's trying to source some OZ prodrive's but I don't think he's having much success

Johnny, that seems an excellent price, is that STi Racings basic rate or did you wangle a deal? I take it you didn't get a pod for that price?

Alan, my 18" anthracite Superleggeras came from Wendy @ ScoobyWorld for £1160 inc Toyos IIRC. May have been £1060. I was looking for 17's but they were unavailable at the time so Wendy did me a good price on the 18's.

SL's are nice but if had the choice again i'd gor for Turini's, Wendy supplies them also.

Carl..As far as i know, that was their price, no special deal or group buy.

I just mailed Simon and asked him to quote me.

They only took 8 days to arrive from Hong Kong, so cant really complain at that either.

Johnny,

Could you please confirm where you got them from in Hong Kong (web address would be great).

Cheers,

Chris.
