South Deeside Road / Leggart Terrace.

The wife was giving me a lift in her Shogun.

At the 30 sign (going into town), the police were stopping everyone.

Reason ? - customs and excise doing a deisel check.

They dipped the tank and no sign of red / pink so we were on our way.

Very convenient that it allowed plod to stick his head in every driver's window early in the morning at xmas party time

I'm sure there will be lots of 'tyre checks', 'road tax checks', etc in the next month . Purely coincidental with the time of year of course !

Surely a good thing Kart-man

We moan enough on here about plod doing **** all about car crime so at least it's good to see them trying their best against drink driving.....

Dont think Dave meant that in a bad way.

Anyways...glad they're doing something.

Just dont see why they dont do it all year round, rather than always taregting xmas & new year.

Hmm, re-reading my post it does sound a bit like I'm against the stops all together. That wasn't what I was getting at - I just wish :

1 - They'd do it all year round so maybe the people who persistanty drink and drive get caught. This would at least act as an all-year deterant rather than just 2 weeks a year.

2 - They were a bit more honest about why they are stopping the cars. I thought random stops were legal now anyway, so why not just be up-front about it rather than wasting everyones time with diesel checks etc. Is this really a problem that needs this level of police resource ? I'd have thought dealing with drugs would be far more beneficial to the community (not to mention other forms of more serious car crime).

Anyway, let me reiterate that I'm in no way in favour of drink driving, I just get frustrated by police time being wasted on OTHER petty crime when I'm sure it could be put to better use.

Illegal use of red diesel is a major problem in the UK, the estimated loss of revenue for TonyB was put at between £450 and £980 million in 2000, so in my opinion it is worth the Police's time to help out the C&E boys to stamp it out.

As for drink driving, I personally feel that the police should aggresively target the people who get bladdered and then drive home when they can barely stand, not dfficult to find them just find a pub with a carpark full of cars at closing time. It's perhaps a bit different for the people who have been to their X-Mas party the night before and are just slightly the worse for wear, but at the end of the day over the limit is illegal!!
