Anyone know where it is?
You know, that place up north that looks like stone henge. I can't remember what it's called. But it's loads of big stone henge rock type things sticking out the ground
Cheers

There are quite a few stone circles in Scotland but Callanish is usually considered the "Scottish Stonehenge." It is on Lewis and there are a number of other circles in the area. It is well worth the trip if you are interested in such stuff and Lewis is a fantastic place to visit. It is not a place to go if you don't like the outdoors and don't have a range of waterproof clothing though :-) However, there is no SUL available on the island (that I have found) and there are only a very few short bits of good (i.e. fun) road. There are a couple of Impreza Turbos and even a Ferrari 348 on the island. The island is not well suited to a fast car as lots of the roads are lined with houses and so have gates, cars, kids playing, people walking etc. While the speed limit in a lot of these places is 60mph even 40mph is often too fast for the conditions. Many also have a LOT of sheep on the road and an encounter can be very expensive. Certainly not a place to go for the driving. Oh, and the local police have recently been armed with a range of "anti-speeding" measures which are occasionally supported by an unmarked car from Dingwall, though it's presence is usually well flagged by the local population.
The Stones near Daviot might be Clava Cairns which are by the River Nairn on Culloden Moor. They are also a very interesting megalithic monument combining stone circles and cairns. While Clava is not as dramatic in terms of it's setting as Callanish it is a very nice spot to visit and is probably only 7 miles from Inverness so it's handy and better driving is available.

The stones near Daviot are very near the boozer too, and clearly visible acorss the Glen from my house.
They put them there for a reason, and generally put them in places with very good "vibes". If you live near one you are a lucky man/woman indeed.

The north east Scotland has the highest concentration of stone circles in the world, although most have been disrupted by agriculture (we'd be so much better off without farmers!). All that's usually left is the 'recumbant stone', a huge stone that was the focal point of the monument. They tend not to be standing but lying and were too large to be moved by farmers during the agricutural improvements of the late 18th/ early 19th centuries. Some of them weigh 200 tonnes and no-one really knows how they moved them to the site, as they were often quarried many miles away. But I'm sure you've thinking of Callanish on Lewis though. Not the easiest place to get to and even harder to get from on a Sunday!

There is another one, on the mainland.
Templewood stone circles, not too far from Oban (South A816).
Clearly marked on the multimap and atlases.
