Question

Thinking of moving from Voda to Orange so I can get a Panasonic GD87 or possibly the Orange SPV. However, I'm not convinced about Orange's coverage of Scotland as compared to O2.

Can anyone who's got an Orange phone (or even better, who's had one of each and can give me a comparison) let me know if they've had any signal problems whilst around and about?

Primarily I'll be in the Borders and around Edinburgh, but I'd like to find out what the coverage is like all over the country...

I must be the one you are looking for then!!

Good to meet you in Aberdeen first of all

I've had Orange for over 3 years and found them ok but since I moved to O2, I very rarely have a reception problem. I get the train down to Newcastle and pass thru the Borders and never have any problems. Used to always have no signal with Orange at certain parts but for the life of me can't remember where

Also never had any reception problems with O2 in Edinburgh

Hi,

I live in the borders and have an Orange phone (well it's blue really).

Reception is ok, but there are a couple of black spots on the A7 - in the Falahill/Heriot area, not sure what it's like futher down though.

Hope this helps

Cool

Around town Orange are great. If you head to the highlands it can get patchy, but getting better all the time.

They definitely don't work on Tiree as I found out last year !!

Can't compare to O2 though I'm afraid, as I've never had one. I prefer Orange for the free orange to orange calls though (even though I'm sure other networks now offer this too).

Thanks for the feedback guys 'n gals. I've pretty-much concluded that Orange won't give good enough coverage, whereas O2 will, so O2 it is.

Oh, and A-J, it was nice to meet you too - albeit briefly!

Red face

DON'T GO O2
Service is sh*te and lot's of peeps I know have problems.
Stick to Vodaphone, they have a really good coverage (you can get a signal as far as Gairloch, whereas other providers don't!)

Vodafone is no good. I'm currently with Vodafone, and my contract runs out next week - meaning that my only choice to stay with them would be to upgrade my handset or keep my old one. Since the reason I'm moving is 'cos I want a new toy , keeping the current handset isn't an option. But Voda's upgrade options are ludicrously expensive - they want £99.99 for a T68i!

If I switch to O2, I can upgrade to a 6610 or something similarly technologically advanced, and not pay a penny for the handset (which is important, since I'm unemployed right now ). I quite fancy the Panasonic GD87 (hence this thread about Orange, since only they and Voda do it at the mo)....

Mark,

I'm with Vodafone, and got an offer through for some Sharp GX-10 mobile, upgrade for £99. Had built in picture messaging and colour games. I threw the offer in the bin.

Not sure if that's a better phone or not, but I wasn't sufficiently impressed to upgrade.

I've had the same offer - and it was also filed in the round cabinet. That price for that phone is ludicrous enough, but I've heard that the GX-10 is a PoS anyway (AdamH on TN pointed this out some time ago...).
