For the naive among us, how does the scam work?

Do you turn up to a bogus address with a bag of cash and someone knocks you over the head, or do they expect people to pay with a bank transfer before collecting the car and run off with your money?

I see loads of ads like this especially on Gumtree and I wonder what's the point? How do you get scammed?

You'll be asked to forward a deposit or part payment with the rest due upon delivery which of course never happens! There is a person or persons who use the name Evelyn who seem to be the most active at the moment. You'll often get a text that you can't reply to but the English is good and often quite convincing.
How does this work......simple.......people are greedy for a bargain!! Too good to be true? Then it usually is
Dave.

Thanks. Are people really greedy/stupid enough to forward a deposit, car unseen?

Definitely go for it (I'll be with you in spirit).

If it comes off you've got a great deal.

There are sales like this that are real, like divorces where the wife sells the husband's Porsche for £2000 etc.
