Would You Still Own Your Scooby if you had to choose a car when you passed your test to do you until you died??
I have been thinking this one over and wondering what car I would choose if I had to live with it for life?
Now, being 72 and well into my winter years, I can see what was needed through my life and it goes like this:-
Ages 17-25 ......... you want to look good and 'go fast' spoilers, gold wheels, drainpipe exhausts, clear indicators and other baby toys are the order of the day
Ages 25-45 ......... young family and dog? 'grown up' daddy - You still want speed but happy to shun the childrens toys like Gold Wheels and spoilers and drainpipe exhausts .... its at this point that you realised what a d1ck you looked in the age range above!
Ages 45-60 ....... Autumn years, now the kids have flown the nest and the dog is pushing up the back lawn!! You want comfort, stuff the speed - it scares you silly now anyway!! and it needs to do a sensible mpg
Ages 60-death ........ Winter years, some of us are still up for the speed thing but mainly its just about seeing the day through without becoming a cropper!!
So, all in all, I reckon my car choice - If I had to choose ONE car for life - would be a BMW M5. Speed, comfort, sensible, etc. etc
Whats yours??
Pete

I think what I am saying in my rounabout way is:-
17-25 years its an Impreza Turbo 4-door
25-45 years its an Impreza Turbo Wagon
45-60 years its probably a Passat TDi
60-kick the bucket - who the Fukc cares?
HOWEVER one car that could take you well through ALL stages has to be the M5 IMHO of course!
Pete
Edited to say:- We are ignoring the cost of the car (and insurance) here, ok? so everything is in the pot

I'd have to go with the scoob (18 yrs driving, 8 cars)
Ive had it 4 years now and still smile everytime I drive it, even my 2nd favourite car ive owned BMW 325i Motorsport didnt make me smile everyday, and never once did I scream wooooooooooaaaah in the Beemer more like Shiiiiiiiiit as the back end kicked out in the wet only lost the back end once in the scoob and it snapped back into place pretty damn quick. + 71000 trouble free miles, what more could u ask for??, a slightly softer ride for those winter years mind you the stiff suspension probably keeps the winter brigade awake and alert

You're all a bunch of girls if you think a fast car will be too much for you at 60+ years - my 62 year old dad has just bought his 2nd Impreza Turbo, complete with Leda B, 17" P1 rims, Scoobysport exhaust, STI V wing, PIAA's etc etc...

Hi Pete,
Well if budget is not a consideration how about an Aston Martin Vantage Shooting Brake (V600 spec) courtesy of their Works Division or even better one based on the Vanquish if they can do it.
Or even madder take one Lynx Eventer and then convince the nice Mr Pearce at Lister he wants do one more XJS conversion and comission a Lister MkIII based on the Eventer body shell and there you have it a, 7 litre, V12, twin supercharged, 700bhp estate car.
I reckon either of these could keep me amused for a lifetime as well as being kind of practical and whats more exclusive.
Best wishes
Robin

isnt this a bit of a stupid theoretical discussion.
I dont mind the dream cars discussion as that is possible, but who the hell is going to put a gun to your head and insist on you having one car for life?
its bollocks I tell you.
I say all of the below:
22B for me + 355 for me + X5 for the wife and kids + SL for later years.
and the guy forcing me to have only one car can go @#~k himself.
